• During the big crowning event this weekend in London, the new King and Queen Consort will ride in two coaches, one old and one new.
  • The Diamond Jubilee State Coach is comfier than the Gold State Coach, which has been used at British coronations for hundreds of years.
  • Because of the Gold State Coach, Matchbox cars were made by accident 70 years ago. Several companies, including Bentley, kola, and Williams Racing, support this year’s event.

In 1953, Queen Elizabeth II became the last new British queen. This helped make Matchbox cars possible. A royal coronation has a lot to do with cars, even if today’s coronation of King Charles III won’t have that much of an effect on the toy car business.

The story of Matchbox started when two metal toy car makers in London made a lot of money by selling a million small copies of the beautiful Gold State Coach (shown above). The toy smiths knew it would be used for Queen Elizabeth II because it had been used for her since William IV’s coronation in 1831. Around the time she became queen, they made two versions of it. The smaller one became popular and sold a million copies.

You can probably guess what he made for her or one of the model builders when she later asked for a small toy that would fit in a matchbox. Mattel, which owns the Matchbox brand right now, is selling a limited-edition version of the Gold State Coach that has been changed significantly. This brought back memories of the past. The size of the $60 model is 1/64, so it will fit right in with your Matchbox cars.

The Gold State Coach is a monster in real life. The coach weighs four tons and is over 20 feet long and 12 feet tall. Even with eight horses pulling it, it can only move at a walking pace. Since royals have said that the Gold State Coach is uncomfortable, different vehicles will be used at the coronation event.

Buckingham Palace says that the above Diamond Jubilee State Coach will be used in today’s event. The Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which has six horses and was first used in 2014, is less old than the Gold State Coach because it was first used in 2014. Even though it has a body made of metal, hydraulic stabilizer’s, electric windows, and a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system (HVAC), it looks perfectly vintage. Australia is where it was made.

Other Cars and Trucks in the Stable

Between the party and the parade, a dozen or more cars from the Royal collection could show up. This could include three Rolls-Royces: a 1950 Phantom IV, a 1986 Phantom VI, and a 1977 Silver Jubilee Rolls-Royce Phantom VI. But so far, only the two teachers have been officially invited to the event.

There are a lot of other links in the car business, especially with British names. During this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, two Formula One cars owned by Williams Racing will have the Coronation Emblem on the front. Coda U.K. has some vehicles with the new exterior paint color Royal Green.

Bentley will sell a limited amount of these custom, hand-made cabin pillows to celebrate the coronation. The leather for the pads came from Northern Europe, where the weather is mild, and there aren’t much-barbed wire fences. The cushions have Coronation Emblems stitched on them with 30,000 stitches. The pillows won’t be for sale; only Bentley’s press cars will have them.
