Later this year, the Ford Explorer will introduce a Tremor model, taking the place of the pre-refresh Explorer’s Timberline trim. Ford has not disclosed any details about the upcoming Tremor, but we anticipate numerous orange accents, a slightly elevated suspension, and more robust tires. The new model signifies the discontinuation of the Timberline name, which was previously used on the Explorer and Expedition but is now being replaced by Tremor versions for each SUV. Ford has many different kinds of off-road cars, so everyone can find one they like. The small Maverick truck has the Tremor trim, which is a calmer but no less capable trim. The F-150, Ranger, and Bronco lines all have the Raptor trim, which is very powerful. The Mustang Mach-E Rallye is offered to EV fans, and extreme racers may be able to get a limited-edition Bronco DR in 2023. Now, Ford has released a picture that looks like it shows a future Explorer Tremor, which suggests that there will be another car in the Tremor line. Ford didn’t say which cars will get the new Tremor trim, and the picture doesn’t show much. The bit of trim above the license plate has most of the word “Explorer” on it, and the bottom half of the taillight is the same as the Explorer’s. The Tremor will replace the Explorer’s Timberline trim, which was phased out after the 2024 model year, in a way similar to how the bigger Expedition did it. Ford didn’t give us any more information about the upcoming Explorer Tremor, but we can figure out some things from what we know about the Expedition. The Expedition off-road version was first shown by Ford for the 2025 model year. It was part of a major redesign of the SUV, which is built on the F-150 platform. Three-quarter-inch-thick all-terrain tires wrapped around 18-inch wheels give the Expedition Tremor two side steps. Skid plates under the wheels protect the fuel tank and transfer case. The only other changes are to the outside. The front bumper now has tow hooks, the grille has extra lights built in, and there is a lot of orange trim inside and out. The Ford Explorer Tremor is likely to have a lot of the same improvements as the Timberline. For example, it will likely have a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, retuned springs, and a small suspension lift. The car should still have its standard 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Not long ago, Ford stated that the Explorer Tremor would be coming out later this year, but they didn’t say when exactly.
