When you try to start your car and the battery is dead, it’s a bad situation. Most of the time, it’s because of electrical trouble or someone forgot to turn off the lights. The problem with the software update has given Chevrolet a new chance to hurt your battery. GM Authority says a lousy software update could cause problems for Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon cars made in 2023. In the past few days, there have been a lot of claims on social media that pickup truck owners have been getting dead batteries. Both pickups can contact changes over the air, which is a big deal. Different GM message boards have been trading ideas about what’s going on. A person who said they were a GM technician noted the problem with the infotainment system. After a recent software update, the system seems stuck in recovery mode, draining the battery repeatedly even when the engine is off. The user suggested turning off the choices to “download updates in the background” and “download updates via Wi-Fi when available” in the car’s infotainment system to fix the problem. This would stop the change and the problem with the battery running down. Reddit posts give more details about the problem. One owner said the battery was dead, and the pain returned when a new battery was put in. But the problem was fixed when the radio’s update settings were turned off. This shows that the problem is not caused by a fix that still needs to be finished or implemented correctly. Instead, it looks like something is hurting the truck’s battery because it can’t stop downloading or looking for updates, even when the car is turned off. This idea is supported by other posts. If you just got a new canyon or Colorado and have been driving it around, you should change a few settings so you don’t get stuck this week. The Drive has asked the GM for a comment, and this post will be updated when we hear back.
