The Maserati GT2, which is a modified MC20 supercar, is back in grand tourer racing. The race car has the same twin-turbocharged V-6 engine as the street-legal car, but it is meant to have more power than 621 horsepower. The GT2-spec MC20 is made of a lot of carbon fibre and has adjustable anti-roll bars, dampers, and a big rear wing. Maserati will race in the GT2 European Series with a version of its MC20 supercar that is ready for the track. The first pictures of the GT2 race car, which got out today, will be shown in their entirety at the 24 Hours of Spa in June. As the GT2 class fills the performance gap between GT4 and GT3 cars, there is a lot of uncertainty. There are also versions of the Mercedes-AMG GT, KTM X-Bow, and Brabham BT63 that are homologated as GT2 cars. The GT2-spec model will have the same Nettuno twin-turbocharged V-6 engine as the MC20 that can be driven on the road. Maserati says that the race car takes these numbers “to a greater level” than the regular MC20, which has 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. Maserati also points out that the bodywork is light, made of composite materials, and has panels that can be taken off quickly in case they need to be fixed during a race. The suspension of the MC20 has also been made better for GT2 racing by adding adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars at the front and back. Extreme aerodynamic features on the GT2 include a paddle-shift sequential six-speed gearbox, electric power steering, a big rear wing, and dive planes on the front bumper. The interior of the carbon-fiber dashboard is simple, except for a 10-inch monitor that is built in. Maserati’s return to motorsports began earlier this year when the brand joined Formula E. With the release of the MC20-based GT2, the company is making its return to motorsports even bigger. In the first five rounds, the Maserati Formula E team has three points and four retirements.
