• The company says that the Maserati Ghibli with a V-8 engine will be taken out by the end of this year.
  • Maserati will also stop making the Quattroporte sedan at this time. However, rumors say the next version may be sold in the US for the 2025 model year.
  • The company has already said that it will no longer make V-8 engines but also plans to stop making the current Ferrari-made V-6. This could mean the Ghibli and Levante will get the Nettuno twin-turbo V-6 from the MC20.

Even though the V-8 engine is being phased out, and the current V-6 engine used in the Ghibli and Levante is expected to do the same, both nameplates will still be made at least until the end of their existing product lifecycles.

Maserati is going through a lot of significant changes. The well-known Italian carmaker told Car & Driver today that production of the Quattroporte will end soon and that the Ghibli and Levante could get significant powertrain changes before the end of their current lifecycles.

Getting ready for a funeral

Maserati only sells the Quattroporte and Ghibli cars, the GranTurismo grand tourer, the Grecale compact SUV, and the Levante mid-size SUV. The GranTurismo was just updated, and the Grecale and Levante were just released.

Even though the Ghibli and Levante engines are supposed to last until the end of their lifecycles, they could be changed. We think Maserati wants to replace the V-8 and maybe even the Ferrari-made V-6 in these cars with the “Nettuno” twin-turbo V-6, which made its appearance in the MC20 sports car.

Even though Maserati hasn’t said that the Levante will be taken off the market, a newer version of the mid-size crossover may take place after the 2024 or 2025 model years. The Ghibli will be removed and won’t come back with a new generation since the company is trying to move its lineup even higher upmarket, and sales of sedans aren’t going anywhere.

The company has already said that 2024 will be the last model year for any of its cars to have a V-8 engine since the engines will no longer be made after 2023. It will still be offered on the Ghibli 335 Ultima and Levante V8 Ultima for 2019. There is no Quattroporte Ultima with a V-8 engine, which could be better.

The Ferrari V-6 will probably end up like the V-8. The company told Car and Driver that it will let us know when the engine will stop being made once the news is official. This supports our idea that the Levante and Ghibli will get a new machine. But the Levante GT, the Modena, and the Ghibli Modena Q4 will not get the six-cylinder engine until 2024.

Will there be a Quattroporte?

Even with what we heard today, the Maserati Quattroporte might be gone for a while. The next version of the luxury sports sedan is already being made, as Autocar said. Maserati’s only car model is likely the new QP, which could come to the US for the 2025 model year. It will most likely be a longer GranTurismo with a twin-turbo V-6 and an electric motor with more than 800 horsepower. There won’t be a V-8 model, of course.
