• Maserati will discontinue V-8 cars by 2023.
  • Only the Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte Trofeo have V-8 engines.
  • The Ghibli 334 Ultima and the Levante V8 Ultima are the last V-8s produced by Maserati. The July Goodwood Festival of Speed will debut them.

While we were still happy that McLaren had just recommitted to the hybridized V-8, Maserati told us that it would no longer offer the V-8 choice on its cars. Late in 2023, the business will stop making V-8 engines and instead focus on V-6 engines made by Neptune.

The unfortunate change results from Maserati’s “Dare Forward 2030” electrification strategy. By 2030, the company wants all of its models to be electric, and by 2025, every model will have both gasoline-powered and hybrid versions.

Maserati now only offers the V-8 engine in the Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte Troffer models. The current V-8 Quattroporte is the last one, but there are expected to be more V-8-powered Levante and Ghibli models.

Even though there aren’t many specifics, the Ghibli 334 Ultima and the Levante V8 Ultima are Maserati’s final eight-cylinder engines. Both cars will be shown appropriately in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Maserati won’t change the engine in those cars. Instead, the company will give them a unique paint job and body.

The twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 engine makes 580 horsepower and, in its current form, can get the Levante SUV from 0 to 60 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Even though the MC20’s twin-turbo V-6 Notturno engine only has four cylinders instead of six, it still makes more than 620 horsepower. Fans of the V-8 will be upset, but people who like a little induction noise and wastegate flutter will be happy.
