• As the AMG GLC Coupe family moves into a new generation in 2024 and 2025, the GLC43 Coupe and the more powerful GLC63 S E Performance Coupe will be added.
  • Two turbocharged four-cylinder engines have replaced the eight-cylinder and six-cylinder engines.
  • The GLC63 plug-in hybrid increases the 416 horsepower of the GLC43 to 671 horsepower.

Mercedes-AMG is here for people who want their sport-utility vehicles to be less practical and more fun to drive. The new version of the AMG GLC Coupe starts in 2024 with the GLC43 and ends in 2025 with the more powerful GLC63 S E Performance.

The AMG GLC43 Coupe from a year ago had a noisy turbocharged V-6 engine, while the AMG GLC63, which will no longer be made after 2021, had a fast twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. The new generation of AMG C-class cars and AMG GLC-class SUVs have the same four-cylinder engines as the next generation, which loses a few cylinders.

2.0 liters of power that is turbocharged

The M139 is the internal name for the GLC43’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It works with the same 48-volt hybrid system found in Mercedes’ more famous models to make 416 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. A shaft connects the compressor and turbine wheels with an electric motor. This motor starts the turbo before the exhaust gases reach it. Turbo lag has been taken care of.

The more powerful GLC63 S has the same engine, but Affalterbach engineers gave the 63 a bigger turbocharger, which added 53 horsepower to the engine. It also works with a 201-hp electric motor in the back, connected to a two-speed transmission and a limited-slip differential managed by electronics. On paper, the total 671 horsepower of the setup is more than enough to compensate for the loss of cylinders.

The GLC43 and the GLC63 S have an AMG 9-speed automatic transmission with a clutch pack instead of a torque converter. Mercedes says the more powerful GLC63 S can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, while the less powerful GLC43 takes 4.7 seconds.

Like the square-backed GLC63 S, the coupe has steel springs and changeable dampers at each corner, and the control arms at each corner are not all the same length. It also has active roll stability, which keeps the body from rolling. The brakes have also been improved, with front discs 14.7 inches and back rotors 14.2 inches.

The new AMG GLC Coupe, like the other cars that AMG has changed, has a different grille and bumper than regular Mercedes models. A diffuser, a sharp exhaust tip, and a spoiler on the roof show changes to the back.

The seats in AMG cars are made of Mercedes’s fake leather, MB-Tex, and the steering wheel is made of Nappa leather. You can choose between sport and Nappa leather seats with AMG logos pressed into the headrests for the front seats. In case you need to remember what kind of car you’re in, big AMG logos are on the floor mats, door sills, and other places.
