• Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Starting in 2026, all new vans for business and domestic use will be built on the EA platform.
  • The electric design is flexible and scalable, so it can have different battery sizes, wheelbases, and front-wheel drive or drive on all four wheels.
  • An expensive midsize car that doesn’t have a name. The United States will also be able to use the EA software.

Mercedes-Benz will make significant changes to its private and commercial car lines. The company says that starting in 2026, all new cars will be built using VAN, a modular, scalable electric system. EA.

A #NewVanLife

Mercedes says that despite only one VAN, vans for business and personal use can be told apart in the future. As you can see below, the EA software can be set up in many ways. Before, it was too much for the smaller Metris vans and the bigger Sprinter vans.

The future VAN. EA-enabled electric All Mercedes cars will have the same electric motor-powered front module. The size of the wheelbase and battery can be changed by adding on to a central block. Whether or not an electric motor powers the back axle depends on whether the car has a front or all-wheel drive.

The United States has a lot of power.

Mercedes says that it has multiplied in the American market, going from 8% of the market in 2018 to 16% in 2022. The company wants to build on that with VAN.EA to bring new mid-size luxury vans to America along with the business versions it plans to make.

In charge of Mercedes-Benz Vans, Mathias Giessen said the new van would not be called Metris. The name of the new van has yet to be announced. Instead, by the time the new vans arrive in 2026, they will have been completely rebuilt and will be among the first to go on sale. A whole new line of camper vans was built on the VAN. Mercedes says that the EA technology will also be on the market.

The group is making MB.OS, a brand-new operating system, to go with the VAN.EA base. The technology should make it easier to update software over the air (OTA) and give users access to more digital services and a more comprehensive range of apps created by third parties. Mercedes is also working to improve its technology for self-driving cars, starting with SAE Level 2. By the decade’s end, automation is expected to hit Level 3 for private vehicles and Level 4 for commercial vans.

How are things going with ICE vans?

Mercedes hasn’t said anything specific about VAN. There are choices for the EA power plant output, the battery capacity, and the predicted range. The Mercedes-Benz sprinter 2024 is a car that is not based on the VAN. People say the EA platform, which will be released in the US later this year, has travelled 275 miles on a single charge, from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Long Beach, California. A battery pack with 113,0 kWh of power was needed to go that far.

Mercedes thinks it will sell its current vans with internal combustion engines until the end of the decade, even though the new sprinter will be replaced by a VAN at some point—the one from EA. As long as they are still needed, there is no end date.
