The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT sports coupe prototype was shown off at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Even though it didn’t make our list of the most excellent cars, it was quite a show. After making a smooth run up the hill, it did a couple of circles and dipped its nose in the grass. This gave us a great look at its exterior lines and how they changed inside.

First was the crash, which was pretty decent. After the hidden AMG GT prototype successfully slid around a few bends, it tried to entertain the crowd by doing many donuts. It went around many times before getting stuck between a small green hill and a hay bale. During the maneuver, the lower fascia panels of the car moved around a lot. This could mean that the driver got some minor damage, but it’s unclear who was driving then. We might never be sure.

Concerning the car itself, the Goodwood prototype, which was often seen at the event and showed both the new (covered) exterior design and a piece of the car’s interior, may give us some information about the 2024 GT’s future production model. Even though the current coupe’s windshield, roofline, and back end look mostly the same, the new one has a much more prominent grille up front based on the current model’s Track Series look. The new tablet screen on the dashboard makes the AMG GT look like the inside of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL.

The AMG GT and SL will share a base in the future. The car’s four exhaust pipes could indicate that this is the AMG 63 or a new version. Based on what our source at Goodwood says and the amount of film we have, the car will most likely still have a V-8 engine. Even though hybridization is possible, the prototype doesn’t have any prominent charge ports. Since the AMG GT car won’t come out until 2024, we should learn much more about it by the end of the summer.
