Volvo has shared new pictures of the EX30 before it comes out next week. They show that the interior will have a 12.3-inch screen in the middle. Inside, a sound bar will take up the whole panel. This will make room on the doors for more storage. The inside will be covered with flax, wool, and denim used for something else. The EX30, which was first rumoured to be coming earlier this month, would be Volvo’s smallest electric car. The Volvo EX30 will be available to buy starting next week. Before the big show, Volvo gave us more details about the upcoming electric crossover, including sneak peeks at the exterior and interior design. The new pictures show a body with deep lines and bright LED lights that catch the eye. The headlights use Volvo’s well-known “Thor’s hammer” shape, which can be seen on the EX90. The taillights, which have a C-shaped pattern under a vertical piece, are the same as on the bigger electric SUV. The simple interior has a primarily empty console except for a single 12.3-inch screen in the middle. In “calm” mode, the infotainment system will only show essential information, and Google Assistant voice requests and Google Maps navigation will be built in. On the other hand, the EX30 will be the first Volvo to have wireless Apple CarPlay and a system that can work with 5G. Inside, a sound bar will span the dashboard’s width and look like the ones used in living rooms. Volvo says that putting several speakers in one housing could use less wire and other materials. The new Harmon Kardon system can be used with the soundbar. Since the soundbar eliminates the need for door speakers, the window switches move from the doors to the centre panel—more storage space. The cup holders will also fold to make room for the glovebox, which has moved from the centre screen to behind it. Backseat passengers can also use a sliding storage compartment, and Volvo says that the size of things that can fit in the trunk is shown by a guide built into the lid. Volvo calls parts of the interior design “rooms” and emphasises the use of materials that can be reused or grown again. Other cabin themes will use flax and a wool-polyester mix that is 70% recycled, and one will have a denim motif made from old denim. All the plastic will be recycled, including the Nordico, made from PET water bottles. Beginning June 7, people in the US can make reservations for the EX30. Sales should start the following year.
