Connect about 750,000 miles of highway in the US and Canada to GM’s Super Cruise network by next year. About 400K miles of roads in North America are now equipped with technology that lets drivers use their phones hands-free. Some of these miles are unrestricted, and others will soon be split up. GM says that free over-the-air updates are currently making compatibility better, but some models that don’t have Super Cruise still need to be included. By the beginning of next year, there will be twice as many North American roads where people who drive GM cars with Super Cruise can use the hands-free mode. Today’s news says that the company is working hard to increase the number of roads that are compatible with Super Cruise from about 400,000 miles to about 750,000 miles. Extra routes for an extreme cruise Super Cruise came out in 2017 and lets drivers go over bumpy roads without taking their hands off the wheel. You are need to keep a close eye on everything, of course. A year ago, the network was about 200,000 miles long. It is now twice as long and has several new highways that need to be split up. It is expected that by the end of 2025, there will be three times as many suitable roads in the US as there are in Canada. Some interesting side roads that link smaller towns and cities will be counted as part of those miles. Super Cruise can change lanes by itself right now, even when it has a trailer behind it. More and more roads that are compatible with Super Cruise are getting over-the-air software updates for most GM cars that have it. The business thinks that the process will take until 2025 to finish, but the increased network is free. When GM adds the new roads to its map, it will take about a month for each car to get the new information. Owners of Chevy Bolt EUVs, Cadillac CT6, or Cadillac XT6 cars with Super Cruise will not be able to use the increased network, which is a shame.
