• The Ford F-150 Lightning might soon get an off-road version, which will probably be called the Tremor.
  • Images that our spies got show a Lightning with the same all-terrain tires and front skid plate as the gas-powered F-150 Tremor.
  • When Car & Driver asked Ford if the Tremor treatment would be used on the electric F-150, the company said nothing about future models.

A Ford F-150 Lightning driver can use only electricity to move the car. What if their goal is beyond the edge of the blacktop, where the ground is slicker, and the rocks hit the bottom like George Foreman used to hit his opponents in the ring? Off-road improvements are needed, like those on the gas-powered F-150 Tremor. Based on the spy pictures we have, the Lightning may soon get an update like this.

Lightning made a Ford F-150 shake

Ford won’t say anything about an F-150 Lightning Tremor. When Car and Driver asked a spokesman about it, they said they couldn’t talk about things that would happen in the future. Seeing an electric F-150 with some of the same technology as the modern Tremor makes it hard not to think that this kind of car is on the way.

The Lightning test mule and the Tremor both have matte-black 18-inch wheels with tires that are 33 inches wide and have the same shape as the tires. None of the electric F-150s on the market have tires like that today. Even though all cars now have tow hooks on the front, none have a front skid plate like the Lightning. More importantly, the redesigned bottom fascia will make it easier to get around obstacles.

Another sign of Tremor is that the ride height of the test truck is higher, which lets it have better clearances. From the pictures, it’s hard to tell if the Lightning’s flexible air suspension has been changed, but it’s clear that the side steps that were on most models have been taken away. The gas model’s bonnet, front tow hooks, and side vents all have orange accents and bedside emblems, but the Tremor does not.

All of these hints point to an off-road version of the F-150 Lightning, and since every other Ford truck except the small Maverick has a Tremor option, the electric vehicle will also be called a Tremor. We can only watch and wait for now.
