Elon Musk says that Tesla’s long-awaited Roadster will come out in 2019. Musk’s planned launch date of 2020 is now four years away, but he used X last night to give an update on the progress of the car’s development. As of tonight, Musk said in a tweet that we set much higher design goals for the new Tesla Roadster. “There will never be another car like this if you could even call it a car.”

Musk says that the Tesla Roadster, which will come out next year, will be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds

Elon Musk is aiming to complete the design of the Roadster and unveil it by the end of the year, with sales commencing in 2025. The Roadster breaks away from the conventional two-seat convertible design typically associated with’ roadsters,’ featuring four seats and a retractable glass roof instead. First introduced alongside the Tesla Semi in 2017, the Roadster boasted impressive specifications. The Tesla reported a top speed that was greater than 250 miles per hour, a range of 620 miles, and an acceleration time of 1.9 seconds from 0 to 60 miles per hour. Musk now asserts that the Roadster can achieve 60 mph in under a second, a feature he deems’ the least interesting part’ of the vehicle.

Not one to shy away from the spectacle, Musk revealed that Tesla would be collaborating with his space company, SpaceX, in the creation of the Roadster. He shared numerous tweets in 2018 discussing a SpaceX option package’ that would incorporate ten small rocket engines throughout the vehicle. ‘ These rocket engines dramatically enhance handling, braking, top speed, and acceleration, ‘ Musk stated, even suggesting the possibility of a Tesla’ flying through the air.’

When the Roadster was initially unveiled, Tesla announced a price tag of $200,000, with the first 1000 Founder Series Launch cars priced at $250,000. Those interested can now place their bookings. Payments must be made promptly within ten days via credit card ($5,000) or wire transfer ($45,000). While the Tesla website does not disclose the total cost of the Roadster, it does confirm that the fees are refundable.
