Learn the new Audi names. The German luxury company is steadily transitioning to all-electric vehicles. Still, the new numbering system, which utilises even or odd digits to indicate engine type, may need to be clarified. Audi’s latest hybrids, plug-in hybrids, gas/petrol automobiles, and electric cars are fantastic news. The new automobiles will use Premium Platform Electric (PPE) for battery-electric vehicles and Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) for ICE vehicles.

New names help distinguish them. Electric cars will now be A4, A6, Q4, Q6, Q8, etc. A3, A5, and A7 will be odd-numbered ICE kinds. Audi won’t release any new ICE vehicles for ten years while switching to EVs. Instead, there will be updated models. Why? Audi’s technical development board member Oliver Hoffmann stated whether to have an A6 with a gas engine and an A6 E-Tron EV was uncertain. New ICE names reveal their motivations.

Growing pains will occur, like the A8, upgraded mid-life, and won’t be replaced. Hoffmann thinks calling the latest Audi A8 the A9 is silly. He merely says the platform can handle large SUVs when asked about the Q9 SUV. Another difficult one is the E-Tron GT, which will remain the GT without a model number.

By 2030, Audi will discontinue making ICE automobiles, including plug-in hybrids. The corporation invests $18 billion in EVs. By then, the business expects to sell 3 million autos annually. All Audi models in every class will be electric by 2026. Audi wants to release 20 electric cars by 2027. The EV range has eight E-Trons with the GT and all Q4 and Q8 E-Tron’s. Audi sold more EVs this quarter than last year, and the first one came out in 2018.

The Porsche PPE platform was initially used in the Audi Q6 SUV and Sportback EVs. They will be available by the end of 2023 in Europe and 2024 in North America.

Audi A6 E-Tron Sportback sedan and Avant wagon are likely better than their predecessors. The new A6 has tall hoods and minimal overhangs. Lichte says engineers made the plane more aerodynamic without cutting off the nose or adding a lengthy shield. He doesn’t think windows or roofs need glass. “EVs must remain luxurious.”

EV balls

Audi has displayed electric “sphere” ideas. Fourth car: Activesphere. A four-door sportback coupe, it seats four. The PPE frame will support Quattro All-Wheel Drive. Scout is a new Volkswagen Group brand for more robust electric SUVs and pickups. The Activesphere might be mass-produced with this. I was still waiting. New ICE kinds will replace existing ones with weird names. Audi must make its engines more fuel-efficient to comply with foreign regulations. Starting points:

Audi A5 and Avant

The A4 will be renamed A5 and sold everywhere as a sedan and wagon. The Allroad may reach North America, but not the base car. Ten high-performance engine and transmission options will power the A5 hybrid and plug-in hybrid automobiles.

Lichte feels the new A5 is the best ICE model yet because it features the RS4’s power dome, short wheelbase, and massive wheels. A5 fronts are the largest and lowest. Its Audi-typical grille and LED lighting make it stand out. Chrome borders the greenhouse. Because of its wider track, like the modern RS, the sedan has more excellent rear legroom than the A4, even with the more aggressive fastback. A Sportback-style liftgate replaces the trunk.

The dashboard is broad but shallow. The free-form, curving OLED display is centred on the motor. A second screen fits neatly in the soft dash.

Avant, Sedan Audi A7/S7

The A7 family of hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and performance variants will have eight engine and gearbox options when it launches in 2024. A7 will replace A6.

Lichte believes the sedan is about length and flair, with luxury car proportions that haven’t been modified for efficiency. A7s have trunks. Dynamic daytime running lights, LED rings up front, and smaller taillights distinguish the automobile. S7 Avants are smarter and faster. Smooth door handles, broad track, and 21-inch wheels. US sales of the RS Avant. Hybrids may be faster.

A5 screens are on a soft dashboard. The armrest rises to meet the dashboard to the left of the driving wheel, making the mirror and light switch simple to reach. It is expected that a performance-oriented Avant and an elevated Allroad will be made available in the North American market.
