• A new announcement from Lotus says that the Emeya will replace the Type 133 as the official name for the company’s electric car.
  • The Emeya will be released on September 7 and sold in the US for the model year 2025.
  • Teaser photos of the Emeya show that it has full-width taillights in the back and bright LED headlights.

Lotus is working hard to get ready for the coming electric age. The first electric car made by the British automaker was the 1972 HP Evija hypercar. The second Lotus EV, the Eletre SUV, is much more practical, focusing less on handling and more on a smooth ride and a comfortable interior. Today, it was made official that the car will be called Emeya. The Type 133 saloon, which will be shown off next week, is another four-door car that Lotus is making.

Lotus kept the Emeya’s features secret until September 7, when it was set to be shown to the public. On the other hand, a shadowy teaser picture shows that the car’s headlights are made of two angled, hockey-stick-shaped LED strips. These visual hints look much like those our undercover photographer took pictures of in February. Those pictures showed split headlights with sharp “eyebrows” on top of a full-width bottom light unit.

The sleek exterior of the electric car was also clear from the spy pictures. The Emeya has a slinky shape that cuts through the air for better range. A second teaser picture of the back of the car was released today. It shows that the Emeya will have a rear light bar with a single thin LED band to serve as the taillights.

The Porsche Taycan, the Tesla Model S, and the Lucid Air are all cars that the Emeya will likely fight with. The price of the Emeya should be around $80,000, and it should be able to travel at least 250 miles. Even though the Emeya will be released in a few days, it will be offered in the US in the 2025 model year.
