• Friday, Nikola, a company that makes electric trucks, said there was a fire near its world headquarters in Phoenix.
  • According to the company, the event caused five electric trucks to catch fire, but no one was hurt.
  • On Twitter, the company said it thinks the fire was started intentionally.

Nikola, a new company that makes commercial electric trucks, said on Friday that there was a fire near its offices in Phoenix, Arizona. Even though no one was hurt, several electric cars were burned in the accident.

After the event, the company said on its official Twitter account that it thinks misdeeds occurred. “Foul play is suspected because a vehicle was seen in the area of the affected trucks right before the incident,” the business claimed. “An investigation is underway.”

In a chat with Automotive News, a Nikola spokesman discussed the fire and confirmed the post’s wording. Nicole Rose, a spokesperson for Nikola, told the business magazine, “Once the matter is looked into more, we’ll have more information.”

The Phoenix Police Department also posted a video on Twitter to prove that teams trained to deal with dangerous materials were at the scene. The post includes a video from Nikola’s office that shows that at least three of the company’s cars were involved in the accident. A company official said that five cars were involved in the accident.

The fire is another loss for the small company, which laid off 270 people just last week. One hundred fifty worked in Europe, and 120 operated in Phoenix and Coolidge, Arizona. The company had already had a lot of bad luck, like when plans for a consumer-focused electric pickup vehicle were scrapped too soon, and the Department of Justice charged the former chairman with three counts of criminal fraud.

Reuters says that the company sold 63 Tre battery-electric trucks to 31 sellers in the first three months of the year. According to what the company said last month, it stopped making trucks at its plant in Coolidge, Arizona and planned to start making them again in July. This is the first time anyone knows how the tragedy might affect the company’s work in the future.
