The new Mustang “S650” keeps up the Mustang’s tradition of being one of the most customizable cars on the market. The online setup for the 2024 Ford Mustang just went live today, so you can do it if you want to waste a few hours of your day. Just watch out that you don’t get caught at work. Or, do it; I’m not in charge of your career.

EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse are the three engines that can be put in a Mustang. There are six different styles for the top-of-the-line versions of each. There are also convertible versions of the EcoBoost, the EcoBoost Premium, and the GT Premium. The most expensive model is the Dark Horse Premium, which costs $64,860. The base EcoBoost model costs $33,160.

A 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque is available as an EcoBoost option for your Mustang. The GT version has a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 480 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque. The V8 in the Dark Horse is the same but has 20 more horsepower, bringing the total power to 500 hp. Ford no longer makes the EcoBoost with a six-speed manual transmission, so you’ll have to buy one of the V8 cars. The 10-speed automatic is the way to go if you are on a tight budget but still want a Mustang.

The only car that can get the $4,995 GT Performance and $1,195 Nite Pony upgrades is the Mustang GT. The first one has larger rear sway bar, Torsen rear diff (3.73 ratios with manual, 3.55 with automatic), electronic hand brake (with Drift Brake option), and 19-inch wheels with Brembo brakes. The only wheels and trim parts that come with the Nite Pony kit are black.

The EcoBoost and GT Mustangs come in 11 colors, but the Dark Horse only comes in 8. The EcoBoost and GT also come with a few other hood stripe choices.

Ford says that 27% of people who buy a new Mustang GT or Dark Horse choose the manual gear. Also, now that the slide brake is a part of the Performance package, 50% of EcoBoost buyers get it.
The new Mustang is one of the few V8-powered manual cars on the market that has an engine in the front and drives the back wheels. If you have a few extra hours (or want to pretend to work as you coast toward the weekend), you can create your ideal Mustang and dream about blowing past future Cars & Coffees in a cloud of tire smoke.
