• Most of the White House limos are kept in museums, but this one is not one of them.
  • From 1964 to 1970, Lehmann-Peterson fixed up 500 limos in Chicago. This 1965 Lincoln Continental was one of them.
  • The federal government bought fifteen, and Johnson used this one while he was president.

In the past fifty years, presidential cars have been locked up, burned, or given to museums. On the other hand, the whole 21-foot 1965 Continental is being auctioned off on Bring a Trailer right now.

One of the lots on Bring a Trailer is a 1965 LBJ White House Lincoln Continental Limo

The standard-grade Continental that LBJ drove on his Texas ranch was recently listed for sale on BaT. This car, on the other hand, is one of 500 Executive Limousines that Lehmann-Peterson in Chicago expanded and strengthened between 1964 and 1970. This Lincoln may be the only one of the fifteen that the government personally owned. John “Bugsy” Lawlor, the seller, has taken care of this watch for 22 years and has driven it thousands of miles with a Massachusetts “LBJ” license plate without any problems. There are now 37,000 and a half seconds left on the clock. “The car goes down the road like it’s carved out of a block of stone,” he explains further. “It’s pretty peppy, too.”

This plain Lincoln, a “red carpet car” that took foreign leaders and important guests around Washington, doesn’t have to pull thousands of pounds, which keeps its 7.0-liter V-8 engine from having to work too hard. There is, however, a White House phone with pre-set buttons above the rotary dial and a booze cabinet with real crystal decanters inside. Several new features, like Panasonic speakers and a Sony CD player, were added by the previous owner during the Clinton administration and are hidden away.

Lawlor thought the Lincoln was a normal Lehmann-Peterson limousine when he got it in 2002. On the other hand, the deliveryman brought a one-of-a-kind present: a pen and a gold keychain from Johnson’s opening in 1965. “He asked me, ‘Where did you get Lyndon Johnson’s limousine?’ I didn’t realize I had Lyndon Johnson’s limousine.'”

Lawlor is the “Technical, Spiritual, and Menu Advisor” for Car Talk and is in charge of the media fleets for most of the big automakers. The next person in charge will leave this historical item out in the open and take care of it. Remember always to follow LBJ! The sale will end on March 24.
