• Lincoln is calling back 142,734 MKC cars from 2015 to 2019 because a problem could cause a fire under the hood.
  • Material sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) suggests the problem could happen even when the car is stopped and turned off.
  • The problem is a sensor that checks the battery and could have an electrical spark and catch fire. Lincoln is telling owners to park their cars outside so that fixes can be done faster.

From 2015 to 2019, Lincoln will call back more than 142,000 MKC cars to fix a problem that could cause an engine fire. The company says owners should leave their vehicles outside while fixes are done. Documents sent to the NHTSA say that the problem is that the battery monitor sensor could be broken when the battery is being serviced. This could cause an electrical spark and possibly a fire.

So far, owners have reported 19 fires under the hood. Eleven of these fires happened in the U.S., seven in China, and one in Canada. The recall study found that all of the fires started when the cars were parked and not being driven. By the end of June, Lincoln will send letters to the owners. The sellers have already been told. For now, they are asked not to park their cars inside. The NHTSA has a page where owners can check to see if their vehicle is one of the ones being recalled.
