• The first cars to use the brand-new high-performance all-terrain tires were the 2023 Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato and the 2024 Porsche 911 Dakar.
  • Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires were on the Porsche, and Bridgestone’s new Dueler All-Terrain AT002 tires were on the Lamborghini.
  • Both sets had an amazing 0.96 g of grip on our test track, but they didn’t have the same grip on the road as more traditional performance tires.

It’s no secret that major improvements in tire technology have made cars much more reliable. Of course, tire companies aren’t the only ones working to make cars run better; these companies have been working with automakers for a long time. This year, we tried the first sets of high-performance all-terrain tires on the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato and the Porsche 911 Dakar. They set an even higher standard for performance.

Please take a look at what we did with two Exotic Cars and High-Performance All-Terrain Tires

They are matching things up

In the past, Bridgestone and Lamborghini worked together to make versions of the Potenza that were only available to their companies. Bridgestone’s new Dueler All-Terrain AT002 tires are the company’s first run-flat all-terrain tires made just for supercars. They can only use the Sterrato’s 235/40RF-19 front tires and 285/40RF19 rear tires, which have a top speed of 168 mph.

All-terrain tires usually focus on gripping surfaces off-road. The Dueler’s tread pattern and sidewall were designed to give it grip on roads when making quick turns. The finished result is an all-terrain vehicle that looks a lot like Frankenstein’s Monster.

The Bridgestone Potenza Sport summer tire was used as a model for the thick sidewall. The tread pattern has a special compound that got an impressive 0.96 g in our test lab, as well as grooves that are meant to get rid of dirt and rocks. Even though it doesn’t have the otherworldly grip of other Huracáns, we were still amazed. When we measured the number, it was 1.11 g on a 2018 Huracán Performante with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires.

With the Dueler attached, the Sterrato could stop at 172 feet at 70 mph, which is very good. Pirelli Trofeo R tires on the Performante made it do the same thing at 135 feet, but Bridgestone Potenza Race tires on the Huracán STO made it stop at 154 feet from the same speed.

The 911 Dakar is just as capable of getting the job done. It comes with a custom set of Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires, and we used our skidpad to test how well the Dakar held its line at 0.96 g. There are 245/45R-19 tires in front of the Dakar and 295/40R-20 tires behind it. The Dakar’s dirt slinger tires aren’t rated for mud and snow, but the Lamborghini’s all-terrain tires are.

For Porsche, the better performance of all-terrain tires is what led development engineers to choose them over summer tires as the norm. The fact that we got 1.04 g in Dakar with the extra Pirelli P Zero PZ4 summer tires makes us think they made the right choice. When it comes to stopping, the 911 and the Lamborghini both did about the same. It took 18 fewer feet (18 feet) for the 911 with summer tires to stop from 70 mph than it did for the all-terrain Dakar (162 feet).
