After Automotive News said that the BMW 6-series would be back in a few years, a BMW source said that was not true. It was said that the car and convertible 6-series models would come back in 2026, but the two-door model was taken off the market after the 2018 model year. It looks like BMW’s next-generation CLAR design, which works with gas-only, gas-electric, and all-electric powertrains, was also used to make the next 6er. In 2026, a well-known BMW brand name might be back on the road. A person who works in the supply chain told Automotive News first that the two-door BMW 6-series would be coming back. If you look at BMW’s next-generation Cluster Architecture (CLAR), the next 6-series will come in both coupe and convertible body types. The story said that BMW’s plant in Dingolfing, Germany, would start making the new 6er in mid-2026. The cars would go on sale in the second half of that year. Gas-only, gas-electric, and all-electric drivetrains can all work with CLAR. Based on how BMW handled the launch of the updated 5-series sedan, it looks like all three powertrains will be offered with the new BMW 6-series, which will come out in 2027. The four-door Gran Coupe was the last BMW to be called a 6-series. This is separate from the bigger Gran Turismo car, which also stopped being sold that year. When they were last on the market, the 2018 car and convertible had a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with 315 horsepower (640i) or a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine with 445 horsepower (650i).
