The first electric Range Rover is on its way to the private driveways and heated garages of rich people. To get their attention, JLR has posted pictures that give a hint about how the next big, luxurious EV SUV will look. The Range Rover Electric looks a lot like its gas-powered and plug-in hybrid siblings. That shouldn’t be a surprise since the newest model was made with an electric car in mind when it was first shown off a few years ago.

Range Rover's first electric SUV, Wade, has been teased

The first Range Rover electric car

They will both be built on the same Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA Flex) platform. The Range Rover will be built on the MLA Flex platform. Even though the electric vehicle (EV) has a high-voltage battery, it will be able to go off-road just like cars with gas engines.

Range Rover says that a lot of testing has started on the prototypes. As part of these tests, the cars have to drive in very hot and very cold conditions and wade through water up to 33.4 inches deep, which is two inches less than what gas-powered cars can do.

EV drivers need to be extra careful when they are far from the nearest charging station compared to Range Rover users who have a gas tank. If that doesn’t happen, the electric Range Rover’s 800-volt design, which is meant to allow for very fast charging, won’t work.

As with most technical information about the future electric car, the expected driving range and battery sizes need to be clarified. The electric motors and batteries for the Range Rover Electric will be made at the company’s plant in Wolverhampton, UK. For quite some time, this has been the situation. Between now and then, the car will be built in the same building as a regular Range Rover in Solihull, UK.

The Range Rover EV won’t come out until 2025 as a 2025 model, but people who want to be on the waiting list can do so now. When pre-orders open, the people who want them will be at the front of the line.
