• Ferrari sent a letter to the 2022 and 2023 296 GTB dealers and the 2023 296 GTS, telling them to stop selling and offering test drives “immediately and until further notice.”
  • NHTSA has recalled 425 Ferrari 296 cars. The owners will get emails about the recall by July 7.
  • Corrosion in a pipe connecting to the fuel tank could cause fuel to leak and even start a fire.

Ferrari has given its sellers an “Urgent” Stop Sale order, telling them not to sell or let people test drive the 2022-2023 296 GTB or 2023 296GTS until a possible fuel leak is fixed.

The logic behind the order was that if the cars’ aluminum fuel tank connection pipe made “unintended contact” with the battery cover, corrosion, and possible fuel leakage could happen. Ferrari said the problem was found when they were preparing to send a car to China on April 12. The company says that no fires have started and no guarantee claims have been made because of the problem.

As part of the NHTSA recall, sellers will replace the pipe with one that is stronger and has a protective rubber sleeve around it. On April 20, this sleeve was first put on Ferrari 296 cars, ready to be made. The recall covers 425 vehicles that were made before that date.

Ferrari 296 owners are told to wait to drive their cars until the problem is fixed. The NHTSA will let owners know by July 7 at the latest. Visit the NHTSA’s recalls page to find out if your car is affected and get more information.
