Across the grid, Formula One cars are going faster than Pirelli expected. Formula One’s tire provider says that the vehicles in 2023 will need more robust tires, so new slicks will debut at Silverstone to keep up the pace.

Racer says that the speed of the first three months of the 2023 season has been faster than expected. This year, cars were expected to be slower because restrictions on ride height put the floors of the ground-effect machines farther away from the track, which made them less powerful. That didn’t take place. Sergio Perez’s pole lap in Miami was two seconds faster than the year before. This surprised Mario Isola, who is in charge of motorsports for Pirelli. So, more vital tires are needed, and they will soon be on the market.

Tires should not make cars go faster. Instead, they should perform more consistently when carrying more weight. Because the 2024 season was expected to need more performance than the current recipe, many of the materials in these new tires were made just for that season. Because of this, the chemicals are very developed. Teams will, however, get two more sets of tires for the upcoming free practice sessions at the Spanish Grand Prix so that drivers can get used to the new rubber.

You should expect no significant changes shortly because these new tires will be used in races after a few more grand prix. In a few weeks, it will be apparent if the cars or people have changed how they drive.
