Electric car owners will be able to choose from a number of charging ports starting in 2025. People who bought a Kia EV6 or EV9 SUV after September 4, 2024, will get a free NACS-to-CCS conversion early the following year. Once they make them, Kia will make adapters that will let J1772 Level 2 AC chargers and CCS outlets charge Kias with NACS. Most electric cars in the automotive business currently use combined charging system (CCS) ports. Tesla designed the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, which will replace them. As of 2025, most automakers will switch to the NACS port, but current EV users will still have to use the CCS connectors. In response, many automakers have made adapters that let these owners use NACS chargers. Kia recently said that some of its customers would get a free copy of its particular converter. For people to get a free charger, they must have bought a new Kia EV9 or EV6 after September 4, 2024. EV6 cars from 2024 and EV9 models from 2024 and 2025 can take advantage of the sales offer. From the beginning of 2025, customers will get these free switches. According to Kia, starting January 15, 2025, DC fast charges with NACS will be available for Kia cars. Kia dealerships will sell the adapter to people who bought an EV9, EV6, or Niro EV before September 4 at a later date. Kia offers three kinds of NACS adaptors. With a NACS-to-CCS adapter, Kia electric cars can use both Tesla Superchargers and the NACS-style DC fast chargers that will be built all over the country next year. As of now, charging stations run by companies like Chargepoint and Electrify America have CCS-equipped fast chargers that can be used to charge future Kia EVs with the NACS connector. A CCS-to-NACS adapter will be needed to make this possible. An adapter that connects from J1772 to NACS lets owners of Kia EVs with NACS use regular Level 2 AC chargers. Kia said that by early 2025, owners of Kia EVs will be able to pay for charging using the Kia Access app after installing a software update for their cars. When customers use the navigation screen or the app to search for and move between chargers, the update will also let them see which chargers are available, how loaded they are, and how much they cost.
