• On Monday, Tesla quietly raised the price of the Model 3 car by $250.
  • The Model Y now has a new base model, and the Long Range and Performance models just got a price cut of $2000.
  • After a run of price drops to help the Model 3 and Model Y meet the latest EPA rules, which went into effect on April 18, the latest price cuts are the latest ones.

On Monday, the Model 3 and Model Y went up by $250, but Tesla said nothing about it. Currently, the least expensive Model 3 with rear-wheel drive starts at $41,880, and the least costly Model Y with regular all-wheel drive starts at $48,880.

If you’ve been thinking about whether or not to buy a Tesla Model 3, now is the time to decide. The company cut the price of the single-motor rear-drive car by $1,000 on Thursday in preparation for a change in the federal tax credit that will happen later this month.

According to the company’s Federal Tax Incentives page, the Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive credit will go from $7,500 to $3,750 on April 18 “based on new IRS guidance.”

Tesla’s lone lithium-iron-phosphate battery is in the base Model 3. line that comes from China. A car must be assembled in the United States to be eligible under the Inflation Reduction Act. Also, its battery cells must be put together in North America, and some of its minerals must come from a list of free-trade countries that doesn’t include China.

Today, the Model 3 costs $43,630, and you can get the $7,500 credit until April 18. Then, half of the credit will be taken away. Tesla’s Model 3 pricing change can be predicted.

In other Tesla news, the Long Range and Performance Model Ys now start at $54,630 and $58,630, respectively.

A base Model Y with a 279-mile range has also been added to the list on Tesla’s website. The regular model starts at $51,630. It costs less than the Long Range model. Before, it was only available for inventory models and wasn’t mentioned on the website with the Long Range and Performance Models. Instead, Tesla used a “secret menu” style, like In-N-Out. Tesla says on its website that after April 18, all Model Y cars will still be able to get the full credit.
