The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster was designed as an homage to the brand’s most iconic sports car, the 357 Speedster. It reminds us of the 357 concept car unveiled in January. The chassis of a 718 GT4 Clubsport was repurposed for use in constructing a Vision 357 Speedster. The Mission R and the 718 GT4 e-performance inspired the development of electric motors and battery technologies. The Speedster retains many distinctive characteristics and styling cues of the original concept for the 356, much as the Vision 357 has many aspects and styling lines of the original idea for that vehicle. The Porsche 356 was the company’s first sports car and is considered an icon in its own right. Porsche is now celebrating the 75th anniversary of the model. In January, the business displayed the Porsche Vision 357 for the public. It is a stunning homage to the very first racing car produced by Porsche. Overnight, as part of the celebrations for the company’s birthday, Porsche displayed a new concept car called the Vision 357 Speedster. Even down to the 4.0-liter flat-six engine that was supposed to be in the center of the Vision 357, our discovery that the initial idea for the Vision 357 was to be based on the 718 Cayman GT4 RS was both surprising and exciting. Given that it is 2023, any new ideas should revolve around using electricity. However, because it resembles automobiles from 2023 more closely, the Vision 357 Speedster does not feature such a power plant. Instead, it employs the race-ready chassis of the 718 GT4 Clubsport, the electric motors and batteries of the Mission R, and the 718 GT4 e-performance. It is similar to the 718 GT4 e-performance, which has an electric motor on each side for all-wheel drive and shares a chassis with the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. The Vision 357 Speedster also has an electric motor on each side for all-wheel drive. In the qualification mode, the performance motors have an incredible 1073 horsepower, while in the racing mode, they only have 604 horsepower for up to 30 minutes at a time. According to Porsche, the lap times and highest speed of the e-performance car are identical to those of the 911 GT3 Cup car, which is approximately 186 miles per hour. Some Reflections on the Design Most people find the appearance of the Vision 357 Speedster appealing, even though it is capable of very high speeds. The windshield was lowered onto the automobile from above in classic Porsche fashion. The view that the driver sees is accentuated by a cloth cover that is located on the right side of the dashboard. The highly sleek appearance and the nearly undetectable headlights and taillights are carried over from the sister design. Porsche opted for a two-tone paint job using Metallic Marble Grey and Gravel Grey to complement the Miami Blue accents found all over the car and draw inspiration from older race cars. The Speedster boasts a large “75” logo, as well as badges reading “1948” and “2023,” although the quick emblems have a Miami Blue tint to them. The Speedster has carbon fibre hubcaps that lock in the middle and 20-inch magnesium wheels that look like the giant rims on the 356, which have the same diameter. Following its appearance at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Porsche intends to transport the vehicle to the United States, where it will be displayed during the Porsche Rennsport Reunion in September.
