The Zenvo Aurora hypercar will have the most powerful V-12 engine that has ever been put in a car for the road. It’s known as the Mjølner, equipped with four turbochargers and a hybrid powertrain. Developed in collaboration with engine specialist Mahle, this 6.6-liter V-12 engine, producing 1250 horsepower, has the potential to give rise to smaller V-6 and V-8 variants for use in other applications. If it were possible to go back in time, the Vikings would be amazed by how many people today speak Norse folklore. Still, anything that involves aliens may be hard for kids to understand. The name Mjølner comes from Zenvo’s new V-12, which is based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and doesn’t need to be explained. Everyone knows it will hit like Thor’s hammer. With 6.6 liters of volume and four turbochargers, this 12-cylinder engine is one of a kind and can do a lot of damage. It can make 1250 horsepower at 9800 rpm by itself, and it can make an extra 600 horsepower when paired with a hybrid system that has three electric motors. When it is fully charged, it will make a sound like Loki walking on Lego bricks. Mahle, a German engine specialist, helped Mjølner create the V-12. Mahle’s knowledge of ignition systems and modular engine technology was used. Mahle calls this “jet ignition,” where the mixture in the cylinder is set on fire by pre-chamber ignition instead of a normal spark plug in the chamber. This starts the combustion event. Zenvo says the V-12 can run on synthetic fuels and meets all European pollution rules by running at Lambda 1. All four turbochargers are housed in the engine’s V shape. This design has been used before by Mercedes-AMG, BMW, and Audi, but only with one or two turbochargers. This design keeps the exhaust and intake systems from getting too big because the engine has to fit inside Zenvo’s small carbon-fiber chassis for the Aurora hypercar. There will be a track-only version with rear-wheel drive and a little less electric help, as well as a road-only version with all-wheel drive that gets the full power. Since there are so many hypercars on the market these days, Mahle’s claim that he is a master in modular engine design maybe even more interesting. The 12-cylinder configuration of the Mjølner could potentially be modified into a six- or eight-cylinder variant with a smaller displacement, making it suitable for use by Zenvo or other automotive manufacturers. Imagine taking off the hood of your sports car and seeing the word “Thor’s Hammer” written on the engine. Fun things. The Zenvo Aurora is expected to cost close to $3 million, so if you want the most powerful V-12 engine, you’ll need to sell a lot of rare Marvel books until then. Miller wasn’t meant to be used by everyone.
