The Z11 option package was only offered for a short time. It had aluminium body panels and other changes that made the car lighter. About 57 full-size Chevrolets from 1963 are thought to have had this feature. The first effort for this example was started by a drag racer named Terry Prince. This 1963 Impala is among the rarest and most potent full-size Chevys ever. It roared down the drag strip in its 427-cubic-inch big-block V-8 before pulling up to the Christmas tree. Bring a Trailer; another Hearst Autos newspaper, Car and Driver, is auctioning off this unique Impala. At the beginning of the 1960s, drag racing peaked, and Chevrolet wanted to beat Ford. For the 1963 model year, RPO number Z11, a special-order option package, gave the full-size Chevrolet Impala something unique. It was a too-expensive addition that, at $1240, added more than a third to the price of the car without adding much to its value. The radio, heater, and front sway bar were all taken out. Using metal instead of steel for some parts, the weight was cut by 300 pounds. In 1961, the Chevrolet Super Sport (SS) came out with a 409-cubic-inch V-8 engine with 360 horsepower. For the Z11, the size of this engine was increased to 427 cubic inches, 13.5:1 compression pistons were added, and a high-rise intake system with two four-barrel carburetors was added. From the factory, it had 430 horsepower and 575 lb-ft of torque. The BorgWarner T-10 is a manual transmission that has four speeds. The power goes from the front axle to the Positraction back axle, with a gear ratio 4.11:1. The sides of this brand-new car, which Terry Prince bought, are marked with his name. Prince, who oversaw the performance area of Service Chevrolet in Pasadena, California, asked for it. He took part in the NHRA World Championships and other events in 1963. The car comes with pictures of the Impala race and the original purchase order for $4102.32. In the late 1990s, the car was taken apart and put back together. If the driver is good at footwork, this big red sled can hit 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and go through the quarter-mile traps at nearly 120 mph. This Chevrolet is a scary beast from a different time. It doesn’t have seats, drum brakes, or weapons like the USS Missouri. It’s the dream of every Tame Impala fan. The sale will last until June 17th.
