The 1965 Buick Riviera, A Former Auto-Show Model, Is On Bring A Trailer

At the 1964 New York Auto Show, Buick showed off a brand-new version of their already beautiful Riviera car. Fixed quad lights were swapped out for clamshell covers on the front of the car to make it look cleaner and give the grille more space. The 1966 model was completely redesigned for a second-generation car, so this style was only offered for a year. It is now very popular. People were shocked when the covers came off this model in New York City. It is now for sale.

The 1964 car show had a 1965 Buick Riviera on display. This one is for sale on Bring a Trailer, which is owned by Hearst Autos, which also owns invoice Pricing. As a Gran Sport version, it has two four-barrel carburetors that make it more powerful. It was just painted again in its natural Verde Green color. The marketing team at Buck may think it’s a bit cocky to name a car after the French Riviera, but this beautiful car lives up to the European-style beauty that the name suggests.

Well-known Riviera fan Leonard Nimoy got his first car, an early 1963 model, and often drove it to the Star Trek set. William Shatner owned a Corvette, just like the Apollo astronauts, but the actor who played Spock liked something with more style over V-8 power. A Riviera was the only sensible choice.

It is said that the Naval fighter pilot who owned this one took very good care of it for forty years. In 2023, a full visual makeover got rid of the Gran Sport badge on the back and improved the paint and chromework.

Below, new bushings and ball joints have been installed to repair the suspension. Despite being more of a luxury roadster than a sports vehicle, the Riviera should ride and handle fairly well for its time thanks to its Bilstein shock absorbers. All four wheels have drum brakes.

Because it is a Gran Sport, this Riv has the most powerful engine available: a 425-cubic-inch V-8 engines with the two carburetors we talked about above. When it left the factory, it had a huge 465 pound-feet of torque and 360 horsepower. It looks great, and the V-8 was fixed up in 2012. The car has its original 15-inch Rally wheels and an automatic engine with three speeds.

This Riviera has a lot of nice features, like cruise control, power windows, and a power driver’s seat. It’s a beautiful car that cruises just as well today as it did in the mid-1960s, and it will be important as a one-year example. This kind of car could even make Spock smile.

The sale ends on March 26.
