The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E standard range models will change the lithium-ion batteries to lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The EPA says that with the new 70.0-kWh batteries, cars with rear-wheel drive will go 250 miles, and cars with all-wheel drive will go 226 miles. Also, the base Select trim of the Mach-E is now $3000 cheaper, and the Premium trim is now $4000 more affordable. In the second half of 2023, Ford will significantly change the Mustang Mach-E. BlueCruise is now available on all Mach-Est, and all-wheel-drive cars have more power and a more extended range thanks to new batteries for standard-range vehicles. Also, all prices have gone down as a result of the changes. Ford is buying new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from Chinese battery maker CATL to replace the lithium-ion batteries already in all standard range Mach-Est. In 2026, CATL will give a license to a plant in Michigan to start making LFP batteries. The normal range of the new Mach-E packs still has a capacity of 70.0 kWh, but the better chemistry lets them go a few more miles. The standard range of all-wheel-drive Mach-Est goes up from 224 miles to 226 miles, and the range of cars with rear-wheel drive goes up from 247 miles to an EPA-estimated 250 miles. The new batteries give Mach-Est with all-wheel drive and a standard range of an extra 45 horsepower. Ford also says that normal-range cars can now be fully charged more often at home when using AC charging and that DC fast-charging time has been cut by five minutes. Ford thinks that it will take 33 minutes to charge a regular range Mach-E from 10% to 80%. The improvements don’t affect the models with a more extended range because they still use the same 91.0-kWh lithium-ion battery packs. Also, all Mach-Est now come with the tools needed for BlueCruise, Ford’s hands-free highway driving system. Customers can choose to use the system as a member after a free 90-day trial. A three-year membership can also be added when the car is first bought. Under the latest version of BlueCruise, the Mach-E will also change its position inside lanes to give more oversized vehicles, like semi-trucks, more room. It will also change lanes without the driver having to touch the wheel when the turn signal is used. Ford can retake orders for the famous electric crossover, of which nearly 40,000 were sold last year, because the Mach-E factory in Cuautitlan Izcalli, Mexico, has been updated. The Select trim starts at $44,795 and costs $3000 less than the Premium trim, which starts at $48,795. Everywhere, prices are going down. The extended battery update for the Premium trim is still $7000. Still, the more comprehensive range of the California Route 1 edition is $1000 cheaper at $58,795, and the high-performance GT model is $4000 more affordable at $61,795.
