The Pebble Beach Concours of Elegance is coming. This event brings the world’s most expensive vehicles to Monterey, California, and their buyers. The week before the Concours, many shows have distinct themes. These include modest automobiles and strong racing legends. Many old and exotic cars with strange bodywork and engines drive about like they own the neighbourhood—the most excellent automobile of the year. To bring you the best of Monterey Car Week, we sent two reporters to cope with traffic and bizarrely coloured attire. Check back all weekend for events before the Concours of Elegance on Sunday, August 20. Wednesday: Signups The most significant day of the trip from Los Angeles to Monterey is usually Thursday, but we departed early on Wednesday to catch some of the earlier festivities. Like Lenny Kravitz, “You can always tell who will go your way on the way up.” Show of little vehicles Monterey Car Week is all about data, from hotel rates to auction results, but the pleasure begins with the Pacific Grove Little Car Show. Pacific Grove, closer to the suburbs than Monterey, has a beautiful main street where you may put up small machines and walk in the sun. The small Car Show will return in 2023 after a 2020 hiatus. The event had so many miniature automobiles that Peels, Messerschmitts, and MGs lined the streets. Friends, a small car is merely an engine show with a freshly enlarged cap of 1800 cc, practically as much power as two Coke bottles. He said, “We thought about doing it by wheelbase, but no one knows what their car’s wheelbase is.” I proposed players drive through the “Car Must Fit in This Space” design on airport carry-on bags. Perhaps next year. I’ll keep you updated because I want to use my 2.0L Opel GT’s trick engine to sneak inside.
