The 2024 Chevy Traverse will have an aggressive exterior and a sophisticated interior with a standard 17.7-inch infotainment screen. A 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four replaced the V-6 with 315 horsepower and 317 pound-feet. The Chevy Z71 off-road edition has Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, a modified front bumper, and a specific all-wheel-drive system. Chevrolet expects three-row SUVs to become even more popular with suburban American families in five years. Chevy produced the 2024 Traverse with an aggressive appearance, a potent powertrain, and a wider choice of trims, including an off-roading Z71 model, to capitalise on this expansion. I upgraded the appearance and screens. The 2024 Traverse retains its boxy shape, high-mounted LED running lights and squared-off hood. The 2024 model, with its athletic stance and giant head, seems more authoritative. Like the 2024 Trax, its LED taillights are L-shaped. Chevy only told Car & Driver that the 120.9-inch wheelbase remained the same. The larger 17.7-inch touchscreen replaces the outgoing Traverse’s 7.0- and 8.0-inch touchscreens. Great, the Traverse offers manual climate and noise controls. Six USB connections and an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster are standard. WiFi and wireless phone charging are extra. Pass-through storage is available under the centre console. The LT and base LS have eight seats. The Z71 and RS’s second-row captain’s chairs limit seating to seven. All models save the RS have heated front seats, second-row outboard seats, steering wheels, and side view mirrors. To access the third row, the RS has a power-folding second row. The RS has leather seats in the first two rows, but the LT and Z71 use Evotex upholstery that looks like leather. Black 22-inch wheels, blacked-out exterior trim, three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, and red highlights on the black inside make the RS version flashier. When the key is used to approach the RS, the suspension becomes sportier, and a light show begins. The RS has a power-screen panoramic sunroof, but the LT and Z71 can install one. Becoming more powerful A 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine will replace the 2024 Traverse’s 3.6-liter V-6. 315 horsepower and 51 pound-feet of torque provide the inline-four engine 317 horsepower, five more than the V-6. The Traverse comes with front-wheel or all-wheel drive with an eight-speed automatic gear instead of a nine-speed one. Chevy believes the new engine burns less petrol than the old V-6, which averaged 21 mpg with front-wheel drive. The Traverse can pull 5,000 pounds depending on setup. Chevy sells the Traverse in the riskier Z71 version for the first time. Chevy believes the Z71’s larger track and one-inch-higher ride height make it more stable and controllable. Chevy says the Z71 has a larger approach angle than other Traverses and a more rigid front bumper with a metal skid plate and red tow hooks. The Z71 has off-road twin-clutch all-wheel-drive and hydraulic rebound dampers. These additions should improve rough-terrain riding. The Z71 has Hill Descent Control, Trailering Package, and Terrain Mode. It sports tough-looking 18-inch wheels with Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires. Security matters most. Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and a forward-collision warning help the Traverse driver keep everyone safe. The Traverse can have parking cameras, sensors, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and automated stopping while reversing. Every Traverse has “Buckle to Drive” technology. It requires front and rear seatbelts before driving. The Traverse will get the latest version of GM’s hands-free Super Cruise. Split-road Super Cruise controls steering, accelerating, and stopping. When towing a trailer, the system automatically changes lanes and keeps working. GM’s Lansing Delta Township factory will build the 2024 Traverse. It will launch in early 2019. Prices will be announced once production begins, but the base price should be roughly $39,000, up from the existing model. A luxury High Country trim may be coming shortly for the most expensive model RS.
