Stellantis hasn’t said anything about the new Fiat 500e since it was shown at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show. A new report from CarsDirect says that its starting price in the US makes it more expensive than its direct competitors. The base price for the second-generation Fiat 500e is expected to be $32,500 (delivery fees not included). This is more than the Nissan Leaf ($29,225) and Chevy Bolt ($27,495). The Chevy Bolt, on the other hand, will soon no longer be made; the Leaf is getting old, and the Fiat’s price still needs to be determined. “The price has not been disclosed.” In an email to The Drive, Stellantis said, “We’ll share more information later.” The 117-horsepower electric motor in the front of the Fiat 500e in Europe is powered by a 32.3 kWh battery. It also has a range of 199 miles, but our version might have a different range than the EPA’s because range figures in Europe and the US sometimes match up. If this is true, the new little Italian car will have a range of more than 100 miles farther than the old model’s 84-mile range. CarsDirect says that the 500e will also come with cloth seats, 17-inch wheels, 205/45R17 tires, and Stellantis’ 10.25-inch Uconnect 5 system. It also needs to be made clear where the Fiat 500es that are meant for the US market will be stored, which will affect whether the car can get federal tax breaks under the Inflation Reduction Act. Customers can save a lot on taxes if the car is built at one of Stellantis’ North American locations. This means that the end price of the car is less than $30,000. If there are no tax breaks available, the 500e might be seen as too expensive since cars like the Bolt have longer ranges for less money. In Italy, you can only be so cute.
