• The 2024 Kia EV9 and Telluride SUV with three rows of seats are similar in size and engine power (201–379).
  • The dual-motor architecture is the most powerful all-wheel drive system, but the rear-drive option will have the most extended range—around 300 miles.
  • Near the end of 2023, the EV9 will go on sale in North America, but Kia has yet to say how much it will cost or give any other information.

The U.S. specs for the 2024 Kia EV9, which the company showed off today at the New York Auto Show, have been added to this page. Kia says that more detailed trim information and prices will be available in the future. Families looking for a mid-size, three-row electric SUV will have more options when the 2024 Kia EV9 debuts on sale in the U.S. near the end of the year. EV9 will be the most significant electric vehicle. Its size and design match the gas-powered Kia Telluride, but it will share showroom space with the compact Niro EV and the little EV6.

People are talking about the Kia EV9.

Most people have already seen how the outside of the EV9 looks like a Minecraft block. It still looks a lot like the concept that was shown for the first time at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Other models have even more similar front accent lights, which can be set up in different patterns and shine through the body cooler.

The Telluride and EV9 are identical outside by a few tenths of an inch. The electric version measures 197.4 inches, 77.9 inches, and 69.1 inches (70.1 inches for the GT-Line). The EV9 has a 122.0-inch wheelbase and 7.8-inch axle spacing.

We are still determining how big the EV9’s passenger area is now. Based on this and what we know, the EV9 will have a more extensive interior than the Telluride. We’ve sat everywhere. I can attest to how roomy the E.V. is, especially in the back row, where there is more headroom and legroom.

Since its e-GMP platform lets it have a flat cargo floor, the EV9 has an advantage over gas-powered cars regarding interior space. Kia says there are 20 cubic feet of space for cargo under the third row. When the driver’s and front passenger’s back seats are folded down, the cargo space goes up to 82 cubes.

The EV9 has a head-up display, a digital rearview mirror, a logo on the steering wheel that lights up, and a 14-speaker, 708-watt Meridian audio system that can be added as an option. Kia also has an opportunity for the first and second rows of seats called “Relaxation Mode.” The seat cushions heat up and cool down, and the leg can be moved with a button.

Punchy or poky?

Both powertrain versions of the 2024 Kia EV9 will have three power levels. Aside from the all-wheel-drive dual-motor architecture, we don’t expect the single-motor versions to be potent. The trade-off will almost certainly lead to a more extended range between charges. Two rear-wheel-drive EV9 models have one electric motor on the rear axle. The entry-level Standard is the only EV9 with a 77.6-kWh battery pack, but we are still determining how far it can go. The most horsepower and torque are both 258 pound-feet.

Rear-wheel-drive EV9 Extended Range moves more slowly in a straight line. Kia claims 0–62 mph takes 9.4 seconds. The Long Range’s peak power drops from 215 horsepower to 201 horsepower, and the bigger 99.8-kWh battery makes it heavier.

The EV9 GT-Line has the highest power and a massive battery until 2025 when the high-performance G.T. variant is released. EV9’s 800-volt electrical system charges quickly despite its solid electric motors. Kia claims a D.C. fast charger can charge the larger battery from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes. Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis charge quickly, supporting the assertion.

Kia’s EV9 continues to evolve.

The EV9 will offer advanced active safety measures and expandable driver-assist technologies. Kia’s lidar-based Highway Driving Pilot will enable Level 3 autonomous driving in specific conditions. Early EV9 buyers get a digital key or remote parking assist. The “key” starts parking the EV9, even when the owner watches. They must be purchased together. The digital key enables the owner to open and starts the vehicle with their smartphone, which isn’t new but still valid.

Kia says that the 2024 EV9 series will be sold in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of this year. Before this year, leaks gave prices ranging from $56K to $73K. At first, the EV9 will be made in South Korea and shipped to the U.S., but sometime in 2024, it will be put together at Kia’s factory in West Point, Georgia.

Watch for the mid-size three-row electric SUV’s price and other specifics in the coming weeks and months.
