• Kia has shown off the updated 2024 Sorento with U.S. specs, which includes a new off-road package called X-Pro.
  • The engines have remained the same, but the front and back ends have been changed. A new entertainment system has been installed inside.
  • The hybrid models won’t get a makeover until the 2025 model year, which isn’t due until later in the year. The 2024 Sorento, on the other hand, will come out in the first quarter of 2023.

We now know everything about the updated 2024 Kia Sorento, which was shown at recent car shows. The mid-size SUV will be sold in U.S. stores in the next few months. The Sorento gets new features inside and a new off-road grade level called X-Pro. The front and back ends have also been updated.

The 2024 Kia Sorento has a new look and an off-road X-Pro trim

Changes to the inside and outside

The most obvious changes are in the front, where the grille and headlights have been changed. The taillights on the back are more modern-looking. Also, you can now get them in two new colors, Dawning Red and Midnight Lake Blue, and with new wheel styles.

Inside, the infotainment screen gets bigger, and new software is added with improved choices and more ways to connect, such as over-the-air updates. Now, every model level comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. There is also a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster screen on higher trims but only a 4.3-inch display on lower cars.

Upgraded trim level; powertrains stayed the same

The current trim levels—LX, S, EX, S.X., and SX-P—will not change. However, the new X-Pro package is meant to be better for off-road use than the X-Line package, which is mostly just a strong stylistic package. The 17-inch wheels and BF Goodrich all-terrain tires from the X-Line are also on the X-Pro. The roof rack and skid plates are also there. With the X-Line package, you can choose EX, S.X., and SX-P cars with all-wheel drive. The mix will almost certainly be pricey, though, since the X-Pro can only be used with the SX-P.

The LX and S models of the Sorento still come with the same 2.5-liter inline-four engine that makes 191 horsepower; no other changes have been made to the drivetrain. It comes with an automatic transmission with eight speeds on it. The EX, S.X., and SX-P models all come with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a 2.5-liter inline-four engine that makes 281 horsepower on its own. During our 40,000-mile long-term test of a Sorento S.X., we had trouble with the transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on both engines, but all-wheel drive can be chosen as an extra.

Later, the hybrid Sorento 2025 will be shown off

In 2024, gas-only Sorentos will get the same updates as hybrids. But unfortunately, you have some more time to wait. In the U.S., the improved hybrids will come out in the 2025 model year. The 2024 Sorento hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, on the other hand, will stay the same. Aside from that, they will both have the same inline-four gasoline engines (1.6 liter supercharged). At first, the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) type was said to have an EPA-rated electric range of 32 miles because it had a bigger battery pack and a stronger electric motor.

It’s too early for Kia to say what trim levels or technical specs the 2025 Sorento plug-in hybrid or hybrid will have, but the company has said that a new Dust Blue upholstery choice will be available. Prices for non-hybrid cars starting in 2024 will also have to be pushed back, but they should go up significantly from the $31,415 to $45,015 range of the current Sorento.
