Lucid is making a few small changes to its Air Grand Touring electric car for the 2024 model year to keep it up to date. The Air Grand Touring now has a heat pump from the Sapphire type. The battery and motors have also been improved, and the charging time has been cut by 15–30%. Putting out the Air car for the 2022 model year was a big deal for Lucid Motors in the car business. After a few years, the California-based business has made small changes to its electric luxury cruiser to keep it at the top of the market. The company showed off the 2024 Air Grand Touring, a mid-range model that costs a lot less than the high-performance $250,500 Sapphire but more than the Pure and Touring. Lucid says that the EPA’s range test for electric cars has recently become stricter, but the Air Grand Touring will still have an expected 516-mile range in 2024. Even though you have to say which 19-inch wheels you want, this is the longest-range estimate for any electric vehicle you can buy in the US right now. The 2023 Grand Touring with 20- or 21-inch wheels went about 469 miles. Data for 2024 is still being collected. Updates to the powertrain inspired by the Sapphire’s technology improve the range. Lucid says changes were made to the Grand Touring’s motor design, battery chemistry, and thermal properties to “reduce energy wasted as heat,” which improved the whole system. In 2024, the Grand Touring will get a heat pump from the Sapphire with 1234 horsepower. This will help it save range when it’s cold outside. Lucid also says that the speed of charging has sped up. The company that makes the Air says that it charges 15–30% faster when attached to a DC fast charger, but they don’t give any specifics. Lucid says that automatic preconditioning has been made better when going to a charging point. The base price of the 2024 Grand Touring is $111,400, which is over $15,000 less than the 2023 model.
