Lucid Motors has begun testing its future Gravity SUV on American roads. Lucid says that Gravity would have a longer electric range and better driving qualities than other EV SUVs on the market now. The configurator and order books are scheduled to be ready this year, and production will start in 2024. Lucid Motors has been quiet about the planned Gravity SUV since they first hinted at it last November. The Gravity has just started testing on public roads in the United States as it gets closer to being made. Even though Lucid showed off the Gravity near the end of last year, the most current pictures of it being tested show it covered in space-themed camouflage. But there are few clues about the upcoming SUV from the startup company. The Gravity will have up to seven seats and a more modern Glass Cockpit with a newer Lucid UX operating system version. According to the company, the luxury SUV will drive like a sports car and have a better electric driving range than any other EV SUV on the market. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough actual performance data to make accurate predictions. Instead, we have to take Lucid’s word for it. We expect the Gravity to have the same range of power levels as the Air, which has three levels of power running from 480 horsepower to 1050 horsepower on the Grand Touring Performance model. When the Gravity goes into production, its specs will be similar to the Air sedans. At 75 mph, the Air Grand Touring has the most comprehensive range of any electric vehicle we’ve tried. It can also gain up to 300 miles of range in just over 20 minutes when attached to a fast charger. The size and weight of an SUV will lower the Air’s predicted range, but if Lucid’s first try is any indication, the Gravity will have a lot going for it. Lucid gave a timeline in November of last year that said the Gravity configurator and buying books should be ready in 2023, and manufacturing should start in 2024. We asked Lucid about the timeline and will update this piece if we hear back.
