• The 2024 McLaren 750S is a form of the 720S that is lighter, faster and has a slightly different look.
  • McLaren says that more than 30% of the parts in the 750S are new or updated, and the 740-hp twin-turbo V-8 engine gives the car an extra 30 horsepower.
  • Sources say that the 750S car weighs up to 66 pounds less than the 720S, while the 750S Spider only weighs 108 pounds more.

The McLaren 720S, which will be replaced by the 750S in 2024, has mostly stayed the same. When some people see how little the new title has changed on the outside, they might think the worst and say that McLaren is just giving its mass-produced supercar a basic facelift. Others will rightly guess that the 750S’ shell, which looks similar, hides a lot more.

Stronger And Lighter

The improvements made to the 720S replacement are minor and don’t come as a shock. McLaren says that about 30% of the parts in the 750S are new or have been changed. The car still has a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, but because the boost pressure is higher, for a total of 740 horsepower and 590 pound-feet.

The 765LT has the same light pistons used in the flat-plane-crank V-8. The exhaust pipes that were once different have been put together in a way that is similar to the McLaren P1. Sources say this makes the 750S sound much more meaningful, especially at high revs. More oversized air intakes in front of the rear wheels are said to help cool the engine, and a new mesh grille sits under the redesigned back bumper.

McLaren says the 750S engine has a lower final-drive ratio but still has back wheels. A new feature ensures that gear changes only happen when needed. It limits downshifts that could make the engine rev higher than needed.

Lessening the amount of weight helps these technical benefits be even better. A 2018 model weighed 3,161 pounds on our scales, 66 pounds less than the 720S car. The new standard carbon-fiber race seats in the 750S are said to save a total of 38.6 pounds compared to the seats in the 720S. This is one reason why the weight of the 750S has gone down. Lighter carbon buckets can also be used.

Because the 750S is lighter and has more power, it is said that the coupe and the Spider, also called a convertible, can hit 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. The Spider is expected to be 108 pounds heavier than the coupe and take 7.3 seconds to hit 124 mph, which is a tenth slower than the coupe. The Spider also has a roof that can be pulled back. The top speed for both types of bodies is said to be 206 mph.

A new braking gear for the tracks is now available to help stop these strange animals. The kit comes with 15.4-inch carbon-ceramic rotors and monobloc (also called one-piece) front brakes from the McLaren Senna, which are made to resist fading and wear. Even if the improvement isn’t made, a new brake booster and vacuum pump should make the brakes feel more consistent.

Even though the new model is 3.5 pounds lighter than the old one, it has a giant active rear wing that creates downforce and helps with high-speed stopping. Customers can update their Pirelli P Zero tires to the super-sticky Trofeo R or even stickier P Zero Corsa.

From The 720s To The 750s

The improved suspension of the 750S, which includes the third version of McLaren’s Proactive Chassis Control, won’t cost customers anymore. It uses a hydraulic hose and accumulator system similar to the PCC II system on the 720S to stop body roll without losing ride quality. On the other hand, PCC III has a new shape, lighter dampers, and accumulators that have been changed. Also, the springs are softer up front and firmer in the back.

The front track of the 750S is 6mm wider than the 750. The new car still has a hydraulic turning system, but the ratio is faster. When asked why the company hasn’t moved to an electrically assisted setup, a McLaren spokeswoman said the hydraulic system is the only way to keep the brand’s signature steering feel and accurate input.

The 750S and 720S are similar on the inside. Customers who want to use Apple CarPlay on a new 8.0-inch tablet entertainment system, like those who want to use Android Auto, are still looking for a solution. Also, the cabin has adjustable mood lighting, and rich people who like to rock out can still get a Bower & Wilkins sound system.

Power steering column changes allow drivers to switch between modes without taking their hands off the wheel. With the release of the McLaren Control Launcher, drivers can now customize their favorite drive-mode options and quickly turn them on or off.

McLaren gives car owners a glass screen that lets them see the powerful V-8 engine if they want to be reminded of it. One of the exciting improvements is a front-axle-lift system that can now raise the car’s nose in 4 seconds instead of 10 seconds.

Along with the changed lower front bumper, the car’s nose has an extended front splitter that doesn’t stand out as much as the shorter distance between the famous “eye sockets.” A cool new feature is trimming the headlights with carbon fiber or painting the area around them to match the body color.

The base price for the car version of the 2024 McLaren 750S is $331,740, and the base price for the Spider is $352,740. The first cars are scheduled to hit the market in the third quarter of this year, and dealers in the United States are already taking orders.
