The new Mercedes GLC is a compact luxury SUV, and now there’s even a variant called the AMG GLC43. Whereas the previous iteration used a V-6 engine, the current one is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that generates 416 horsepower. The GLC43 will hit the shelves in the USA in early 2024. The new Mercedes GLC SUV’s AMG speed trim has swapped out the V-6 engine for a four-cylinder unit similar to that used in the C-class car. In place of the previous model’s twin-turbo 3.0 litre V-6 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four in the 2024 AMG GLC43. The new engine has more horsepower while being smaller and having fewer cylinders. The new GLC43 shares its M139 turbo-four engine with the C43 and several other AMG vehicles. It has a power output of 416 hp and a torque output of 369 lb-ft. The new engine boasts 31 more horsepower than the old V-6 but just 15 fewer pound-feet of torque. Mercedes claims that the new engine is significantly more agile by using F1-inspired technologies like a 48-volt hybrid system and an electronically assisted turbocharger. Mercedes claims a belt-driven starting generator can provide an additional 13 hp at reduced engine revs. The GLC43 has a top speed of 155 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, according to the manufacturer. Larger brakes, adjustable dampers, and rear-wheel steering are all standard. The AMG GLC43 may be distinguished from the standard GLC300 by its unique front grille, rear diffuser, twin tailpipes, and unique tire widths on its 20-inch wheels. The transmission is a nine-speed wet-clutch unit, and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is calibrated to transfer more torque to the rear wheels than in the regular GLC. The interior has been updated with new trim and metal shift paddles for the steering wheel. You’ll see the AMG badge everywhere you look—on the pedals, door sills, screens, and mats. There’s Nappa leather upholstery, sports seats, and a data logger to keep track of your lap timings and other stats. Although Mercedes has not confirmed any details, we estimate that the base price of a 2024 AMG GLC43 will be around $60,000. There will be a lot of costly upgrades. Adding the AMG GLC43 to the GLC lineup is inevitable. Mercedes’ GLC43 SUV, with its boxy profile, will go on sale in the United States in the first half of 2024, the company has announced. The more potent GLC63 model year 2025 vehicle will hit the market later that year. A turbo-four and a hybrid electric motor will power it.
