Adding a new performance package is not a new idea for keeping a speed car fresh. GM should be praised for continuing to work on its V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive performance car in 2025, even though the rest of the market seems to be moving in the opposite direction. GM’s addition of the new Precision Package to the 2025 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing may only be a formality, but the fact that the car is being changed at all is a good thing. The CT5-V Blackwing was already a standout among luxury cars, often outperforming rivals like the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63. With the introduction of the Precision Package, the car’s performance is set to reach new heights. The package promises a host of enhancements that will significantly elevate the driving experience, making the CT5-V Blackwing a thrilling ride on both the street and the track. The Precision Package has higher spring rates, updated bushings, and re-calibrated MagnaRide dampers. These all make the car perform better on the track while keeping it comfortable on the street. The rear toe links and steering knuckles have been redesigned to allow for more aggressive wheel alignment for track use. A stronger front stabilizer, better steering chassis control, and rear differential calibration should make the car more stable on the road and improve its ability to turn. It also has better carbon ceramic brakes because a track kit is only complete with them. The “regular” 2025 CT5-V Blackwing was updated earlier this year, so don’t worry—you’ll get all of the changes even if you don’t plan to race. Cadillac has added a new 33-inch touchscreen screen and three new colors: Drift Metallic, Deep Space Metallic, and Typhoon Metallic. The grille and front fascia have also been changed to keep the car’s modern look. As of right now, the CT5-V Blackwing is a rare animal. It comes with rear-wheel drive, a six-speed manual gearbox, and a supercharged V8 engine with 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque. This makes it the most traditional supersedan on the market right now. Mercedes-AMG is adding hybrid technology to its V8 and inline-six cars. The new BMW M5 is also a hybrid, and the Audi RS6 Avant will be a plug-in hybrid in the future.
