• Maserati is adding the beautiful GranCabrio roadster to its line of all-electric cars. It will come out in 025.
  • Since it is built on the GranTurismo Folgore, the GranCabrio has an electric drivetrain with three motors that produce 818 horsepower.
  • The GranCabrio Folgore looks good with its bent sheet metal and high-end interior. This will cost a lot of money and come out in December.

Maserati’s newest electric car, the GranCabrio Folgore, is a soft-top convertible, so the weatherman in Modena, the company’s hometown, had better say it will be a clear, blue summer. Maserati showed off the Folgore version of the GranCabrio in sunny Rimini, Italy, but the gas-powered version came out in February, right in the middle of winter.

Let me introduce the GranCabrio, a great droptop

The GranTurismo Folgore car and the GranCabrio Folgore, which is an electric version of the GranCabrio, are set to come out in 2025. Actually, the two cars are so similar that they share an 818-hp electric engine and a sculptural form on the outside.

An 83.5-kWh battery powers three electric motors, and the GranTurismo Folgore’s engine will work about the same. The quarter-mile run takes less than 11 seconds, the speed at 60 mph is 2.7 seconds, and the car can go 240 miles on a single charge.

The GranCabrio Folgore has the same 800-volt design as its coupe twin. It also has a battery pack that is built in a way that is different from the flat-panel battery packs that are common in electric cars. In a normal plan, the seat would be too high in the middle. This T-shaped pack, on the other hand, is made to fit inside the tunnel that normally holds the driveline and transmission.

The electric GranCabrio’s interior is very fancy, made of eco-friendly materials, and has lots of cool tech features. The soft top folds up quickly at up to 31 mph and is made to fit in the trunk as small as possible when not in use. There is enough room for people in the front seat, but the back seats will not be very comfy for most adults, even though they can fit them.

The GranCabrio Folgore comes with basic seats covered in Econyl, which is made from recycled cotton and feels like silk. Leather is also an option. The cloth’s laser-etched holes make it look interesting. Maserati has added neck warmers to the front seats so that you can drive with the top down when it’s cold outside.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel has a start-stop button on the left spoke and brushed aluminum paddle shifters. The front seats can be adjusted in 18 ways. It comes with a 12.2-inch digital gauge cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, a 16-speaker Sonus Faber sound system (a 19-speaker Sonus Faber stereo is available as an option), a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and three different climate controls that can be controlled by touch.

Standard is an offset set of wheels and tires, with 21-inch tires on the back and 20-inch tires on the front. At least six different wheel styles are available, and four different finishes are available. If you want to increase your range, you can get tires with low rolling resistance, but we worry that they might make it harder to turn corners.

Some features help the driver, such as adaptive cruise control, which is hidden by a sensor under the GranCabrio’s front Trident sign. Standard features include lane-keeping assist, an exterior camera system that can see in all directions, and automatic emergency stopping.

At the moment, only the plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe is on the market. We don’t think of any other open electric cars, making the GranCabrio Folgore a one-of-a-kind choice. Just be ready to pay a lot of money—we think this beautiful piece will cost around $220,000. It should be in dealer stores either early in 2025 or close to the end of this year.
