Autocar says that the next Maserati Quattroporte will have a model called Folgore, an electric vehicle (EV). It will be the only sedan Maserati makes, replacing the Ghibli and Quattroporte. It should be available in the US for the 2025 model year. Maserati currently sells two sedans, the Ghibli and the Quattroporte, but soon one will replace the other to compete with cars like the BMW 5-series, Audi A6, and Mercedes E-class. The name “Quattroporte,” which means “four doors” in Italian, beats out “Ghibli.” Sorry, Ghibli, but I don’t apologize. We hear you wondering if waiting for a Maserati car is worth it. Yes. Certainly, so long as it is carried out in the appropriate manner. But after driving the GranTurismo recently, we are excited about how well the new Quattroporte will perform. Modern cars have a very Fiat-Chrysler feel, as if the only thing worth spending money on is the trident grille, not excellent engineering or performance. Maserati gets a lot of excitement, and the new QP could bring those feelings back. The engine in the new Quattroporte will be a twin-turbo 3.0 liter V-6 that can be tweaked in at least two different ways, just like the engine in the new GranTurismo. Let’s say it has 480 horsepower when it’s not moving and 540 horsepower when it’s full speed. The Folgore is the most expensive type. It has three electric motors and can make more than 800 horsepower. The current Quattroporte may be the last model with a V-8 engine. Like the GT, the interior will have a lot of leather (some quilted), sporty seats, and Uconnect-based connectivity. Maserati won’t copy Dodge’s switchgear for the new QP, which is needed for a car that costs around $150,000 to start. Even though Maserati’s SUVs sell well, we’re glad the company still wants to make cars.
