A single-motor choice has been added to the Polestar 3 rear-wheel-drive lineup, making it bigger. Although it only has one motor, the rear-drive car has 295 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque, and it uses the same 107.0-kWh battery pack. Polestar hasn’t said how much the new trim will cost in North America yet, but it should start at less than $70,000 when it comes out later this summer. Polestar has announced that a cheaper single-motor model will be added to the range before the Polestar 3, which is already on sale in Europe, comes to the United States. This model will be added. It will have less horsepower but more range than the all-wheel-drive Long Range Dual Motor and Long Range Dual Motor Performance models that were already revealed. Because it only has one motor driving the back axle, the rear-wheel-drive 3 makes a lot less power than the types with two motors. That’s down from 483 horsepower in the base dual-motor setup and 510 horsepower in the optional Performance grade. It now makes 295 horsepower and 361 lb-ft of torque. If the rear-drive model had more range, it would make up for its lack of speed and power. It has two motors and the same 107.0-kWh battery pack as the trims. When attached to a DC fast-charging port, it can charge at up to 250 kW. Polestar says that the Long Range Single Motor trim can go just over 400 miles without needing to be charged, but we have yet to be able to get EPA figures for this model. This means that the RWD car will have a longer range than the dual-motor models in the US, which are rated at 315 miles for the Long Range and 279 miles for the Performance pack. The Polestar 3 with rear-wheel drive has all the comfort and features of the more powerful models, even though it doesn’t have one of their motors. Polish company Polestar says that the base model has a lot of options. There are six color options and different internal finishes to choose from. There are also four-wheel choices, one of which is a brand-new set of 21-inch alloy wheels that come with the Pro Pack. Polestar hasn’t said how much the base model will cost in North America yet, but it will be less than $70,000, and that’s before any possible tax breaks for being made in South Carolina. It would be more than $10,000 behind the Performance model and $5,000 behind the Long Range Dual Motor trim with that amount. The company that makes them says that sales will start later this year and that production in North America will start this summer.
