• The 2026 Hyundai Nexo makes its debut as the second-generation model of the brand’s hydrogen fuel-cell SUV.
  • The Nexo is expected to have a range of more than 430 miles, a motor with 201 horsepower that drives the front wheels, and a very interesting concept-inspired look.
  • It remains uncertain whether Hyundai will offer the Nexo in the United States, though it is unlikely given the poor reception of the previous version.

Is it just us, or does the new Nexo look a lot like Hyundai’s N Vision 74 concept? You may or may not agree, but Hyundai’s next hydrogen-powered SUV might be the most beautiful FCEV yet. Nexo’s production is a lot like that of Hyundai’s concept car, the Initium, which was shown off last fall. Seoul-based Hyundai calls its style “Art of Steel.” Okay.

The 2026 Hyundai Nexo Might Be The Most Stylish SUV That Runs On Hydrogen

Introducing the All-New Nexo

At 187 inches, the 2026 Hyundai Nexo is longer than the 2025 model. It was only sold in California from 2019 to 2023. When roof rails are added, the new model is more than an inch higher and two-tenths wider than the old one. Its wheelbase stays the same at 109.8 inches. The new Nexo can pull a trailer that weighs up to 2205 pounds, while the old one couldn’t.

Hyundai says that the Nexo’s hydrogen fuel-cell engine is better than before. The electric motor is bigger, and the fuel stack is more powerful, so it should last longer, especially in colder places. It is said that the front-mounted drive unit, which now makes 201 horsepower, can go from 0 to 62 mph in a dull 7.8 seconds. But it does the job much faster than the one that came before it, which took 9.2 ticks. With a bigger hydrogen tank and better fuel economy, Hyundai wants to be able to drive for more than 430 miles.

A Smooth and Roomy Inside

With its two 12.3-inch screens and horizontal dashboard features, the Nexo’s interior looks a lot like other Hyundai cars. The infotainment system has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and uses creative AI to understand what you’re saying. For people who enjoy these kinds of treats, a Bang & Olufsen radio with a head-up display and up to 12 speakers is perfect. Some Nexos come with camera-fed side mirrors as an extra option, but only in some areas.

Would you like to take it easy at a hydrogen-fueling station? The Nexo’s front seats can be leaned back and have leg rests that fold out and pillows that are ventilated. Hyundai says the back doors are open bigger, and there is more head and shoulder room than before. This makes getting in and out of the car easier for people with back problems. The FCEV SUV can carry up to four golf bags, which golfers will like. When the back seats are upright, the cargo space is about 35 cubic feet bigger. When the seats are folded flat, the space increases to 61 cubic feet.

The Nexo of the future won’t be offered in the United States, which is a shame. It’s also possible that you would only be able to buy it in California. Instead, Hyundai says it will start selling cars in other countries later this year.
