BMW recently showed off the updated Vision Neue Klasse EV concept car, which gave a sneak peek at the all-electric new 3 Series sedan. However, between that event and one for the all-new 5 Series and i5 EV sedan, BMW executives kept quiet about the first all-electric M-division performance variant. The 2027 BMW M3 Neue Klasse EV will likely be a sportier version of the Neue Klasse shown below since there are no public photos of it yet. The first electric BMW M car Several articles from the Straits Times, AutoEvolution, and BMW Blog may give us a good idea of what to expect from the upcoming all-new, all-electric M3, which will be the first fully electric vehicle tuned by BMW’s M division. According to these reports, the new M3 EV, which has the code name “ZA0,” will be built on the Neue Klasse platform idea. The first models to use the Neue Klasse design will be the new 3 Series EV and an iX3 EV SUV, which will come out in 2026. The first performance model will come out in 2027. The new classic architecture of BMW The Neue Klasse idea, which now has 21-inch wheels, is expected to have 30% more range, 30% faster charging, and 25% more efficiency than current BMW EV technology before the M division takes a look at it for further development. More than four engines The platform design is meant to come in various sizes and configurations, like the high-performance M3 EV, which could have up to four electric motors, one for each wheel, to make it all-wheel drive. On the board of BMW, Frank Weber says that since all-wheel drive performance was first launched on the 5 Series and has since become famous, we may see more all-wheel drive performance cars from BMW in the future. Streamlining the power According to BMW Blog, the Neue Klasse design should give up to a megawatt of power, or 1,340 horsepower, but we shouldn’t expect the entire system to be used on the M3. That is said to be the highest limit of a building, but even that is not the limit. BMW Blog sources say that the new M3 EV will have an e-motor at each corner and about 700 horsepower, but there will also be more powerful versions (like Competition-spec models). “Heart of Joy” is a television show The “Heart of Joy,” part of BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture, is a highly integrated software stack that runs all of the vehicle’s powertrain operations in a single way to reduce latency. BMW says its unified software stack significantly improves the onboard computer and processing power. It cuts delays from 10 to 20 milliseconds to just one millisecond, which enhances the vehicle’s performance by making it respond faster. Version without Gas In contrast to the new 5 Series, which came with gas-electric hybrid options and the brand-new all-electric i5, the new 3 Series is almost an all-electric vehicle, including its M3 EV performance version. It will be interesting to see how long the current M3 and M4 cars last before the all-electric Neue Klasse replaces them in 2027.
