You’ll need about $5,000 to turn the engine in a Toyota Corolla Cross into a hybrid. You get about ten more miles per gallon and over 30 more horsepower for the same price. There are three levels, and the top one, the XSE, costs about $35,000 and has two-tone paint and a sunroof. For the 2023 model year, the SUV that will be the actual Corolla will be a hybrid starting at $29,305. The most expensive 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid model, the XSE, with all available options, will cost $35,090. It will come in three trim levels. The base price of the nonhybrid 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross is $24,395, and it has more to offer than just better gas mileage. For example, the front and back of the hybrid model are different. Also, the hybrid system uses three electric motors to total 196 horsepower, while the base engine in the nonhybrid version only makes 169 horsepower. The good news is that the all-wheel drive Corolla Cross Hybrid uses less gas. The EPA rates the nonhybrid versions of the Corolla Cross at 30 or 32 combined mpg, but Toyota says that the EPA will rate all hybrid versions of the Corolla Cross at 42 combined mpg. If you plan to keep the Corolla Cross for ten years or more, you can pay back the extra cost of the hybrid version if it gets good gas mileage. This will depend on how much gas costs in the future. In a nonhybrid Corolla Cross with 30 mpg, the average American driver would need 450 gallons of gas to drive 13,500 miles in a year. Inside the hybrid car? Just 322. If the average price of $3.60 per gallon across the country from the weekend stays the same, the hybrid driver could save $461 at the pump. The new Corolla Cross Hybrid could get some gas savings. These models have Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes dynamic radar cruise control, a lane-departure warning system with steering assistance, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. Adaptive headlights, which cost $615 on the XSE level, are the only other option that has anything to do with safety. There are options for a $940 sunroof, a more expensive JBL sound system, and two ways to make your car’s paint stand out. There are six standard colours for the outside paint, plus a $725 colour called “Wind Chill Pearl.” For $500, you can get four more two-tone colour options with a black roof. The last choice is a convenience package for $1250. Toyota doesn’t say what this package includes, but the non hybrid Corolla Cross has the same option: a sunroof and an automatic liftgate. The basic S trim only comes in one colour, which is optional. Only the SE, which starts at $31,625, and the XSE, which starts at $32,400, come with the rest of the options. Alloy wheels that are 17 inches in diameter, LED headlights, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the “Hello Toyota” Intelligent Assistant are all standard. The SE level comes with important convenience features like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, roof rails, and paddle shifters. The 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, and power driver’s seat are all part of the XSE trim level. The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid will arrive at Toyota dealers in June.
