• Maserati has released the GranCabrio, which is a flexible version of the GranTurismo.
  • It has a soft cloth top, weighs more than the car, and can only be bought with the 542-hp Trofeo model at first.
  • The 2024 GranCabrio Trofeo is likely to cost more than $200,000 to buy.

Maserati’s beautiful new GranTurismo will be called the 2024 Maserati GranCabrio after its roof is taken off. The car is lighter and costs less, but if you can’t live without the wind in your hair, the extra weight and cost may be worth it.

The GranCabrio can go as fast as 31 mph, and its soft top can be raised or dropped in 16 seconds. There is a button on the center panel, and you can also use gesture tools to control the top. You can get the top in black, blue, gray, red, and a color Maserati calls “greige.” When the top drops into the trunk, the cargo space drops to 4 cubic feet. If you don’t want to lower the top, you can extend the divider to make two cubic feet more space.

The beautiful 2024 Maserati GranCabrio is a droptop with 542 horsepower and all-wheel drive

Maserati also comes with a neck warmer that pulls air out of the vents in the front seats and a movable wind deflector that can be put over the back seats. The company says that the GranCabrio’s curb weight is 359 pounds higher than the coupe’s. This means that efficiency will probably be worse.

That’s possibly why Maserati will only sell the droptop in the top-of-the-line Trofeo model at first. It has the same 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine that gives the car 542 horsepower. It also has the “Nettuno” engine from the MC20 racecar, though it has been changed a bit. All-wheel drive and an automatic transmission with eight speeds are standard. Another thing Maserati might be thinking about is making an electric Folgore roadster. We also wonder if GranCabrio will ever make a V-6 version with less power that works with the coupe’s Modena price level.

Maserati hasn’t said how much the GranCabrio will cost at launch, but since the GranTurismo Trofeo starts at $191,995, the droptop will likely cost more than $200,000.
