• The 2025 Bentley Continental GT has been officially unveiled. The Speed version has a plug-in hybrid V-8 engine that makes 771 horsepower.
  • The PHEV’s 25.9-kWh battery is expected to allow it to travel more than 30 miles on energy alone.
  • Both the convertible (GTC) and car (GT) body styles will be available at the same time.

The Bentley Continental GT has changed slowly over time, which fits with the way it is driven, which is very relaxed. The first Continental GT, which Volkswagen made, came out 21 years ago. It had a 6.0-liter W-12 turbocharged engine that made 552 horsepower and 5250 pounds of mass. After being changed in 2012, these numbers were raised to 567 horses and 5264 pounds. Then came the third model, which was much better and came out in 2019. It had more power and less weight, with the 626-hp W-12 weighing only 5056 pounds.

The Bentley Continental GT Plug-In Hybrid 2025 is bigger and stronger

Even though the 2025 Continental GT has a lot of parts in common with its predecessor, Bentley calls it the fourth generation, which means it is even more of a big change. The W-12 engine and the V-8 engine that came before it — which looked better but wasn’t as powerful — are both gone. At the start, the new Conti GT Speed’s plug-in hybrid V-8 engine makes 771 horsepower. With that much power, it is Bentley’s most powerful road car to date. However, its huge 25.9 kWh battery makes it much heavier than its predecessor. They say that the new Continental GT car weighs 5,421 pounds, and the GTC convertible weighs 390 pounds more.

The 2017 Continental GT is not a completely new car; instead, it is a major facelift of the previous model, with some technology changes. Official records say that 68% of the parts are new, but official pictures show that the glazing and general sizes are the same as they were when the building was first built. The length has grown to 192.7 inches, which is 1.8 inches longer than before. The wheelbase has stayed the same at 112.2 inches. The headlights have a new linear running light element that goes beyond the oval lenses and is called “browns” in Bentley’s official release. This is the most noticeable change to the outside design. Since the 1950s, this is the first time a Bentley has been driven on the road with only one headlight. That counts the new Conti. The taillights at the back are bigger and have a new pattern called a “three-dimensional diamond pattern.”

The interior of the previous Continental was always great, and things have mostly stayed the same with the new model. Even though the digital instruments have been changed, the center console has stayed the same. This means that the HVAC controls and other dynamic switchgear are still in good shape. The main screen, which can be a 12.3-inch touchscreen, three analog gauges, or a beautiful but empty piece of carved veneer, will still be a choice.

You can now choose from new colors and trims. One of these is the “Dark Chrome” pack, which is meant to make the inside darker. There will be three different sound systems to choose from. The base model has ten speakers and 650 watts of power. You can either get an 18-speaker, 2200-watt Naim system or a 16-speaker, 1500-watt Bang & Olufsen system with LED speaker grilles as an update.

The most noticeable change to the Conti is, without a doubt, the new engine. The new GT Speed has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine that can reach a peak output of 584 horsepower, which is 42 horsepower more than the previous GT’s V-8. It also has an electric motor with 187 horsepower that sits between the gas engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. They generate 771 hp and 738 lb-ft. The electric motor can produce up to 332 pounds-feet of force by itself. All-wheel drive is normal, as was already said, and the center differential is controlled electronically to send torque to each axle.

Thanks to its large internal battery, the new Continental has a good range when running on electricity alone. However, it probably won’t be as good as the 51 miles Bentley says it wants it to be under the European WLTP test cycle, which is known for being too hopeful. Even half of that would be better than Bentley’s first plug-in hybrid engine, which was first seen in the Bentayga and can only go 23 miles on electricity alone.

When driven only by electricity, the new Continental can reach top speeds of 87 mph. Unlike the Bentayga PHEV, it can also charge its battery while you drive. Even at the fastest 11 kW rate, it will still take more than three hours to charge the pack fully. Putting the battery in the back of the GT is also helpful because it makes the steady weight distribution better. It used to be 55:45 front to back, but now it’s 48:52 front to back.

It looks like some other dynamic gear was brought over. The Continental GT Speed comes with 48-volt anti-roll bars, rear-axle steering, air springs, and dual-valve adjustable dampers. The stock brakes are made of cast iron, but carbon ceramics can be used instead.

The Continental GTC’s top speed is 177 mph, which is a little slower than the car’s. Its folding roof adds weight and may cost more. The coupe’s top speed is 208 miles per hour. According to Bentley, it takes 3.2 seconds for the GTC to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour, compared to 3.1 seconds for the coupe. This is even though the two cars are very different in size.

Bentley’s use of the “Speed” label, which used to go only on the W-12-powered version, suggests that a slightly less powerful model may be offered below the 2025 Bentley Continental GT, even though it will only have one motor when it comes out. We already know that any future Continental GT models will be plug-in hybrids, though, because the company has promised to hybridize all of its cars.
