• The 2025 Bentley Continental GT, a marvel, will be the most powerful road car ever. Its plug-in hybrid engine distinguishes it from its predecessors.
  • The new GT will work with the European WLTP standard and have an electric-only range of up to 50 miles.
  • Bentley is making a bold move towards sustainability. By 2026, the brand aims to hybridize all its cars, a significant step in the automotive industry.

The 6-liter W-12 engine that Bentley just took out of service will be replaced with a plug-in blended twin-turbo V-8 engine that will make “more than 740 horsepower.” It turns out that wasn’t quite true; the new Continental GT will have 771 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque, and these are the first teaser pictures.

The Bentley Continental GT, which has 771 horsepower, will come out for the first time in 2025

Based on those numbers, the new car will have a lot more power than the last Continental that could be driven on the road, which had 650 horsepower and 665 pound-feet of torque. This is exactly the kind of inflation we should work hard to get.

You still need to answer many questions. Importantly, Bentley hasn’t said how much the new engine will weigh or how well it will perform. This had to have gone up because the plug-in hybrid engine is heavier and has an unknown-sized battery that is said to give the car an electric range of 50 miles (probably using Europe’s overly optimistic WLTP testing method). Also, we will have to wait to find out what the fastest charging speeds are.

However, we can learn more from the Volkswagen Group cars that have already been shown, like the new Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid and Lamborghini Urus SE. Both of those cars, including the Bentley, would probably use an electric motor to power all four wheels in between the engine and transmission. The transmission would probably be the same twin-clutch transmission that the Continental GT is leaving with. Bentley has also said that the new Continental will have all-wheel drive, torque vectoring, and a 48-volt electronic anti-roll system.

While Bentley labels this as the fourth-generation Continental, the accompanying photos hint at a facelift of the third-generation model, as Bentley plans to introduce hybrid powertrains across its entire line by 2026, we can anticipate a future of innovative and sustainable luxury cars. You can expect more information from us once all of the details are known.
